I uploaded a project (for the second or third time) to BSS. Will this work if/when I give this .pr file to someone else who doesn't have net access (i.e. what does the project loader do with the URL's?) And why do those URL's refer to earlier versions of my project? Is this an attempt to compress Bob's data storage requirements? I've been doing a little thinking about this sort of problem recently, hoping to make a convenient way to produce 'subclasses' of plugins. This would allow a 'subclass' of FilePlugin that uses the security options, for example. The problem is pretty simple; the plugin finding/loading code expects the plugin name (used as the basename for the file it searches for) to be matched with the moduleName string within the plugin. If you were to make a SecureFilePlugin subclass of FilePlugin, it would normally expect to have a moduleName of (duh) 'SecureFilePlugin' and thus you would want to compile it as securefileplugin.so (or whatever). Problem is then that you have to call it with <primitive: 'buggerMyDisc' module:'SecureFilePlugin'> instead of <.... module: 'FilePlugin'>. Of course, you can override the moduleName when translating the plugin, but that leaves you with two plugins with the same name but subtly different functionality. I think there have been some problems on Windoze with that particular idea... Perhaps making the plugin have a moduleName of FilePlugin and adding (Secure) to the version info string, as well as using a filename of SecureFilePlugin and then aliasing it to FilePlugin in the appropriate search location? We've tried this with our servers, and we find VNC support on Macs (servers and clients) to be pretty buggy. The same client worked fine on one PowerMac, but not on the next. Some of our mac servers worked as VNC servers, some only showed part of a screen. We gave up. Mark >I have run Squeak over VNC. Ned, you might use the new rgbMul mode. It needs at least 16 bit deep font forms, and it's slightly overkill since it handles the color components individually, but it does blend grays correctly. If you use my Antialiased change set it uses subclasses of StrikeFont which decide themselves which Blt mode to use for drawing text. Henrik

[BUG] Projects save disabled flaps despite preferences

I just tracked down 150K or so of extra space that I was storing in my Projects. Project current projectParameters was hanging on to a set of Flaps (called #disabledGlobalFlaps). These were getting stored with the project. Seems like if I choose (which I did) not to use global flaps that they shouldn't hang around, and they almost certainly shouldn't get stored with the project. Oddly, the parameter globalFlapsEnabledInProject was set to true (though the preference for using global flaps was turned off). It didn't matter if I said (later) not to save the global flaps when I re-enabled and disabled them. I had to manually remove them from the Project using a Workspace: Project current projectParameters at: #globalFlapsEnabledInProject put: false; removeKey: #disabledGlobalFlaps -- Ned Konz currently: Stanwood, WA email: ned(a)bike-nomad.com homepage: http://bike-nomad.com

This was a big annoyance for me in the first months using Squeak. I made a change set that partly fixed the problem, and that was posted to the list. Help! Text input with focus?

Hi all, This should be a simple question, but I've got completely stuck on it. My software goes through a question and answer session, with the user having to enter some text into a box, then press Enter to continue. However, all of the methods I have tried require the mouse pointer to be in the text input box in order for that box to have the focus. At first I didn't notice this since I am used to both Squeak and various Un*x environments with this sort of focus, but it drove the students I was testing the software on completely batty - they were always clicking in the text field, then moving then mouse away, then typing into thin air. How can I get a simple text entry box in Morphic that grabs and maintains focus even when the mouse leaves? Any help would be greatfully received, as I can't work out how to do this!
