[ENH] Undeclared cleanup

Hi all, this tiny goodie removes all entries without references from Undeclared. Maybe this should be called after every file in. [ENH] new String modifier: String>>asPlural

Hi Folks. Here's the preamble from my changeset: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "OK. You could say that this is a silly crusade, but I like my Squeak messages to be in proper English (at least when the language you're using is English). I was messing around with the HangMan file-in and I got a walkback that had the following title: 'Error: HangManPhrases classs are not indexable'. I just couldn't stand the extra 's' on 'class', so I created a nifty new String method called asPlural and I modified the sender of the odd string to use the new String modifier. Take it or leave it, but I think this makes auto-generated text just a little easier to read." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I hope you find this new String modifier useful too. [ENH] SerialPort, remember them?

Hi: I've been playing with serial ports on my Powerbook G3 and I discovered some not so nice actions in class SerialPort. If the port is in use elsewhere, trying to open it gets a Primitive Error. I'd rather have my code get back some indication that the port didn't open, so I made some small mods to SerialPort, which are attached. Basically, primitives used during open answer nil if they fail, and the open method answers nil also. Dave _______________________________ David N. [BUG] Socket assumes connection in Linux

When I do: Socket initializeNetwork. s _ Socket new connectTo: (NetNameResolver addressFromString: '127.0.0.1') port: 2001. It always returns a connected socket even when there is no socket listening on 2001. (s waitForConnectionUntil: Socket standardDeadline) returns true right away. It is not until I attempt to send data that its status changes from connected to otherEndClosedButNotThisEnd and an error is raised. I am the only one having Linux socket problems? Can anyone repeat this problem or the problem I posted on March 23 entitled "[BUG]Socket waits unnecessarily in linux"? [BUG] WinCE 2.7 VM can't find files

I'm trying to use the .changes and .sources files under Windows/CE on a MIPS machine with plenty of memory (a NEC MobilePro 770 with 32M of memory and a 64M CF card holding Squeak). My CF card is called "\CF" (I didn't like "\Storage Card2"). So in \CF\Squeak I have the VM files, as well as: tiny.image tiny.changes SqueakV2.sources I open up Squeak, and it prompts for the location of my .image file. No problem. I locate the tiny.image file and it starts up. Then it tells me that it can't find tiny.changes (which is in the same directory). It offers to let me "choose another name". I choose this. Then the name it's showing me is: \C\CF\Squeak\tiny.changes Now, where did the "\C" come from there? I remove the \C to point to the correct file, then accept it. It pops up again saying it can't find the file, and I again choose "choose another name". Now it prompts with: \C\C\CF\Squeak\tiny.changes Boy, it likes \C !! Looking a bit further, I see that StandardFileStream class>>fullName: '\CF\Squeak\tiny.changes' answers '\C\CF\Squeak\tiny.changes'. Why it does this, I'm not sure. Anyway, I cancel, and then it tells me that it can't find the sources file (which is in the same directory as the VM and the image). I can't move Squeak anywhere but on my CF card. Has anyone got a suggestion for fixing this problem? [later] DosFileDirectory>>fullPathFor: '\CF\Squeak\tiny.changes' returns '\C\CF\Squeak\tiny.changes'. The problem is that the code there expects the instvar 'pathName' to be something starting with a volume letter and a colon. However, WinCE doesn't have volume letters. So FileDirectory default in this case is '\CF\Squeak'. Either we need a separate FileDirectory subclass, or we need a conditional in there that checks to see whether there is a drive letter. [ANN] ObjectWeb - a wiki using Squeak Morphs

ObjectWeb is a wiki where the pages are Squeak morphs. ObjectWeb pages are created by adding morphs to a PasteUpMorph. So almost anything one can create with standard morphs can added to a ObjectWeb page. ObjectWeb was developed as a course project in an XP workshop at UIUC taught by Ralph Johnson and myself, with John Sarkela acting as our XP customer. ObjectWeb uses http. As a result one can view gif versions of most ObjectWeb pages via html browsers including Scamper. There is an ObjectWeb server running at http://objectmanifold.dyndns.org:8888. All pages at that site except the CatchMike and FreeCellClientCreate demos can be views with a html browser. We have an ObjectWeb browser running in Netscape & IE using the Squeak plugin. It makes Netscape/IE a lot more dynamic. I am headed out of town for a week and plan to put the plugin version on the ftp site when I get back. Currently ObjectWeb only runs in Squeak 2.7. Hopefully we can get it ported to a more current version of Squeak in the fall. slimming the image

I'm sure this has been addressed many times, but there is no good source of documentation at the swiki. With the changes in 2.8 and 2.9a things have probably changed enough that this question is worth revisiting in the context of the 'ship it with squeak' discussion. I would love to be able to ship a squeak image that had only morphic, the necessary programming classes and the classes necessary for my application. Is there a semi-magical method? Failing that, how do I go about doing this systematically (that is without simply wiping out classes sequentially and checking to see what fails.) Finally, compared to the base image (say 2.8) - what are reasonable expectations for a reduced image size (with morphic, without MVC (is this possible?), with the network support, Scamper, Celeste, the morphic widgets and toolkit classes but without the 3D stuff, Wonderland, speech, music and all those nifty toys etc.) Michael Cole broccole(a)panix.com

How to create a windows pluggable primitive?

Hi! I've trouble to create a named pluggable primitive DLL. I tried to figure out what to do from the sources (mostly Andrew's pdf document and the FlippyArray2 code) but nothing works. I don't know what goes wrong. I'm using Windows 98. Here's my code. When I use the FFI to call each function, it works. The first function answers the string, the second 1 and I can also call "test". I added a MessageBox(NULL, "test", "TestPlugin", MB_OK); to get some feedback. It seems that while getModuleName is correctly called, it doesn't find the other functions. What goes wrong? Where can I find better/more recent documentation? Please help! PS: Is there a method to unload a DLL?
