It's using Form paint, just like the regular fonts. So you get shades of grey around the edges.
Ned, you might use the new rgbMul mode. It needs at least 16 bit deep font forms, and it's slightly overkill since it handles the color components individually, but it does blend grays correctly. If you use my Antialiased change set it uses subclasses of StrikeFont which decide themselves which Blt mode to use for drawing text.
