also, I'm seeing that you use a common.mk file for extra configuration for the makefile. Could you please pass it to me so that I get an example of what's missing?

IMHO merging into the unix code does not make too much sense. It is a separate port. So it would live under platforms/ like the others.
That would be ok. OTOH, some files or major part of some files are idendical. So if there is a way to add a sub-configuration under unix, that may be good.
