Can plugins add libraries to unix vm?

Hey folks, We are working on a plugin using the unix VM for squeak under OSX Tiger. I'd like to have the resulting squeak VM link in some foundation stuff from OSX (CoreFoundation CoreServices...). Is there a way to trigger this using the Makefile.in stuff (tried altering XLDFLAGS, PLIBS, LIBS with no success). It would be nice to have this linkage only occur if adding in our plugin. [FIX] Squeak win32 VM with Genius mouse driver misbehavior

I've found a minor bug in the Win32 SqueakVM, causing incorrect behavior with the 'Genius NetScroll[+] [Optical] Mouse' if using the mouse-wheel: (scrolling works only down, scrolling up causes 'shaking' or scrolls down). In the "sqWin32Window.c" -> "MainWndProc", where the "WM_MOUSEWHEEL" messages are translated to <ctrl-up> and <crtl-down> keystrokes (in 3.7.1 souces on line #218), the conditional expression is "evt->charCode = (zDelta > 0) ? 30 : 31;", causing the zero to be aligned as *negative* value. The Genius driver in it's enhanced mode sends two messages for every wheel movement - first with maximal (+-120) and second with minimal zDelta-value, but the driver treats *zero* as the minimal positive value (-1 is the negative). That may be also considered a bug, but the the fact is - zero *should be* ever aligned as positive. I've fixed this by reversing the condition: "evt->charCode = (zDelta < 0) ? 31 : 30;" and it works well... it shouldn't break anything, and it should be included in the next win32 VM release, cause it affects Squeaks usability with a lot of Genius mouses.

bug in sqUnixExternalPrims.c

In compiling sqUnixExternalPrims.c syslimits.h says NAME_MAX is 255, and the code uses it like... char libName[NAME_MAX + 32]; /* headroom for prefix/suffix */ But later we say sprintf(libName, "%s%s%s%s", dirName, *prefix, moduleName, *suffix); likely when you stuff a 700 character path name into that 287 char array you will die... That all depends of course what NAME_MAX is versus FILENAME_MAX in stdio.h someone might review usage of NAME_MAX and consider the implications -- ======================================================================== === John M. Total allocation count?

I'm looking for a way to find the total number of objects allocated since the VM started (or since the number was reset). As far as I can tell, the stock VMs don't include this. Has anyone written a patch for Interpreter that enables this? I seem to recall hearing about VMs with extra profiling information built in, but couldn't find it. Also, is there a way to temporarily turn GC off? Thanks, Josh

mac carbon vm goes to unix file names

I've made changes to SVN in the mac tree to enable the usage of unix files name versus HFS+ names for the carbon VM. I've still some testing to do, and I haven't quite gotten nested aliases folders to work, nor tested normalized UTF-8 file names. However it mostly works... Likely later in the week I'll make a VM available for beta testing. Over the next few weeks I'll toss/redo the window logic so that when you compile as Universal for intel it won't complain as much. -- ======================================================================== === John M.
