Bigger cursors needed

Hi folks, for the OLPC XO with its 200 dpi screen we really need larger cursors than are currently supported in the VM. AFAIK, all major systems now support arbitrary 32 bit RGBA bitmaps as cursors. I'd suggest to simply extend primitiveBeCursor to allow 32 bit forms. An older VM would fail the primitive so action could be taken on the image side. The primitive would then call a new function, say ioSetCursorRGBA(cursorBitsIndex, width, height, offsetX, offsetY) IMHO, we don't really need to support other depths than 32, so we do not have to give that as parameter to ioSetCursorRGBA(). Not sure if we want to restrict cursor size to, say 128x128. What do the platforms support? - Bert -

Keith, The workaround for [4709] which works well for us here is to use - mmap. Though, from your backtrace below I suspect that you have another problem. Adrian BTW, cc-ed to vm-dev list. Unix path name encoding fix

Hi Ian, when adding the sqGetFilenameFromString() function a year ago we lost the character encoding translation that used to happen (and still happens in other places in the VM). Attached is a patch for that. Also, for all, I attached a changeset that actually uses either MacRoman or Latin1 to communicate with the VM, before there was a mix of both which couldn't actually work. Now I can type characters, copy/ paste text, list directories and read/write files :) This will work correctly only with an old (3.7-7) or brand new VM with my patch applied. Patch for filename normalization of mac vm

Hi, I've found the latest mac vm (or recent version) fails to normalize UTF file name. It seems to be the function convertChars() of sqMacUnixFileInterface.c, which normalizes only decompose when converting squeak string to unix, but I think it needs pre-combined when unix string to squeak, and I noticed normalization form should be canonical (exactly should be kCFStringNormalizationFormC) for pre-combined. build error in SerialPlugin on ubuntu

Status of callbacks support?

Hi Andreas, I have a couple of questions on the status of the callbacks support code. One of the projects we'd like to propose for the Summer of Code is adding native widgets bindings, starting with GTK widgets. But for that to work, we'd like to have a callbacks-enabled VM. Will the callbacks support code be integrated in the main VM code soon? If so, will it be possible to have callbacks-enabled VMs available before the start of the Summer of Code (that is, before June)? Thanks, Giovanni
