Hi--
With help from John McIntosh (thanks!), I built a new MacOS (Carbon)
Spoon VM. Stéphane had pointed out that the previous one had very poor
graphics performance (when running a snapshot with graphics support :).
This one feels "normal" to me. There are no new Spoon VM changes here,
so I'm not sure why the last one was so slow.

Hi--
Well, I can't seem to get a new MacOS X Spoon VM to run, despite being
able to do it last February. I can build and run a vanilla VM from
John's 3.8.6b6 sources, but when I run a VM with the Spoon changes in it
(from http://www.netjam.org/spoon/releases/current/bits/vmChanges.zip ),
on the Spoon control snapshot (from
http://www.netjam.org/spoon/releases/current/bits/control.zip ), I get a
crash on a bad memory access; but the Xcode debugger just shows me
assembly, no source.
My current motivation to build a new Spoon VM is to get faster graphics
on MacOS X. The last one I built (
http://www.netjam.org/spoon/releases/current/bits/MacOSSpoonVM.zip ),
performs absurdly slowly in MVC (reported by Stéphane).
I also tried building a MacOS X Spoon VM from Ian's "unix" sources. The
system starts, but the Display is all-black.
Any help anyone can offer would be wonderful. Otherwise I guess I'll
just wait another N months, when perhaps the sources are different in
some good way, and try again... but I'd really rather make the Mac my
main machine.
thanks,
-C

Hm, when I try to connect to a repository with that URL, svnx just
seems to spin. Do I need to make special firewall affordances? Are there
more detailed instructions somewhere?
'Sorry if this has been discussed before, I just joined the new list.
If someone can point me at a URL for the archives of the new list, I'd
very much appreciate it.
thanks again,

Hi vm-dev,
As suggested on the squeak-dev mailing list, I should ask questions about
porting on this list. As this list is still new, I hope there are people
listening. :)
My first problem. Getting to the ports source on subversion. I downloaded
tortoise SVN and tried to do a SVN checkout on the location
http://squeak.hpl.hp.com/svn/squeak/trunk
At two locations I got the response REPORT request failed on
'/svn/squeak/!svn/vcc/default' REPORT of '/svn/squeak/!svn/vcc/default':
400 Bad Request (http://squeak.hpl.hp.com)
Anyone suggest anything I might be doing wrong? Either both my ISPs don't
have very badly configured smart proxies or I'm doing something wrong. I
suspect the later. If it is my ISPs, anyone have a snapshort archive I can
use?
I'm attempting to checkout to the location c:\squeak\src which I think is
where VMMaker wants it?
Thanks for any help,
David.
