what about image reading?

Dear all, I'm just getting grips on the squeak image format and I am trying to make sense of the "512 bytes padding" possibility. In a previous discussion, the method Interpreter>>readImageFromFile: f HeapSize: desiredHeapSize StartingAt: imageOffset was mentioned that can read the image format using the given offset. However, neither in the Smalltalk code nor in the generated C code I was able to find any uses of this. [patch] Use uuidgen(2) API on NetBSD

Hello! NetBSD has its own UUID API, which is slightly different, see patch below. There's also no libuuid, all functions are in libc, but I'm not sure how to fix it with cmake right away. I'm removing "-luuid" flag with compiler wrapper (we have this kind of functionality in pkgsrc). Gitorious: Imported SVN histrory

Hi, i imported the SVN commit history into git repositories.. which was quite simple to do... Too bad i didn't knew how to do that from starting :) so, now that required to drop an existing 'master' branches. Anyways there was not much, so it is better to do that... because now git repos having full commit history imported from svn. See http://gitorious.org/squeak-vm http://gitorious.org/cogvm okay, now those who did cloned repos should rebase their work on new branch.. It can be done like following: git remote add blessed git@gitorious.org:cogvm/blessed.git git branch blessed "create a new local branch - blessed (or pick any other name)" git checkout blessed "switch to this branch" rm -rf * git commit -a git checkout master git rebase --onto blessed c0e8e46d34a197e5dfb9c29a100f70c0bbeb7e69 master where 'c0e8e46d34a197e5dfb9c29a100f70c0bbeb7e69' is my first commit, i'd like to replay against SVN repository. after fixing any merge conflicts, issue git rebase --continue until you done. git push (see http://www.kernel.org/pub/software/scm/git/docs/git-rebase.html) and of course, you can always pull from blessed and merge your changes manually to avoid complications :) -- Best regards, Igor Stasenko AKA sig.

Cog crash

Hi, when running the standard image test-suite in latest trunk image under the Linux Cog VM (VM.r2348), I came back to discover the VM had crashed. In the console was: sound_Start(default) soundStart: snd_add_pcm_handler: Function not implemented sound_Start(default) soundStart: snd_add_pcm_handler: Function not implemented [1]+ I/O possible squeak Squeak4.2-10892-beta.image There did not appear to be any stack trace information, sorry. Also, I don't know for sure that the messages above were related to the cause of the VM crash or not, but I think they are. A little searching turns up: http://bugs.squeak.org/view.php?id=7328 but when I try to launch with the OSS sound option the VM reports: "could not find module vm-sound-OSS" and core dumps immediately. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04. Is this a VM problem or perhaps need to install an additional Linux package? Thanks, Chris

Hi All, one C coding convention I think is extremely useful for finding definitions is to always put the name of a function (not its forward declaration but its definition) on a newline, so that instead of writing e.g static void recordKeyboardEventCarbon(EventRef event) { you write static void recordKeyboardEventCarbon(EventRef event) { This makes it really easy to find the sole definition in text editors and using grep etc. If people feel they could live with this convention could I be allowed to make this change throughout the platform code base after code freeze and before the release so that this convention will be available to us all in the future? best Eliot

Cog problems

I built new Cog by taking latest VMMaker-oscog.46 on MacOS VM still crashing at some random point during running all pharo-core image tests. Once i were able to run w/o crash and found following failures: MethodContextTest debug: #testClosureRestart because actually this one: MethodContextTest new privRestartBlockArgsNoRemoteTempsTest i'm not sure if this is a compiler issue (maybe it shuffling the temps) or because of Cog, which doesn't likes restarts like that :) BecomeTest>>testBecomeIdentityHash. Sometimes passes, sometimes not (try doing following in workspace): | a b | a := 'ab' copy. b := 'cd' copy. self assert: (a identityHash ~= b identityHash). a become: b. self assert: (a ~= b). self assert: (a identityHash ~= b identityHash). i'm not sure if this is a big issue.. afaik, #become: don't gives any guarantees about copying identityhash. P.S. yesterday i were able to successfully build Cog on linux using cmake configs i generating. but it crashing at first #commonReturn point, which is really weird :) I tried multiple images, same result. Cog colormap bug

I made a reproducable failure for the colormap issue in cog. get the image at http://cobalt.cs.duke.edu/pub/CogColorMapBug.zip then do: (CIconLibrary default at: #SubMenu) colormapIfNeededForDepth: 32 On cog 2348 and 2349 on linux, it fails the first two times you execute it, then succeeds afterward -- Matthew Fulmer (a.k.a.
