Hi all
Eliot's latest CogVM 15.00.3205 provides a SqueakSSL that seems to be linked against
libcrypto.so.10 libssl.so.10
however, I am unable to find either for current or just outdated Debian/Ubuntu. Probably I didn't look hard enough. Anybody knows where to get them?
To work around this problem, we used a precompiled version of the plugin: http://leves.web.elte.hu/squeak/SqueakSSL/SqueakSSL

Thanks Levente!
Eliot, would it be possible to link OpenSSL statically (on Linux, that is) into the SqueakSSL plugin[1]? That way the brittle API/ABI changes, that reflect in a multitude of packages and binary-names across distributions can be avoided. The downside would possibly be to keep an eye on openssl bugs, that seem not so rare in the recent time, and release binaries accordingly.

[1]: Or use libessl[2] or boringssl[3], for that matter [2]: http://www.libressl.org/ and https://github.com/libressl-portable/portable [3]: https://boringssl.googlesource.com/boringssl/

FYI, the SSLPlugin is not 64-bit clean. It will work on a Cog or interpreter VM compiled for 32-bit host (i.e. any Cog VM), but if you use a VM destributed from a 64-bit Linux distro, it probably will not work.
There is a note to this effect at the bottom of Mantis 7751, although it probably deserves a bug report of its own.
BTW, Mantis is back on line now: http://bugs.squeak.org/view.php?id=7751

Hi Tobias,
I'm currently building the Cig Linux VMs on CentIS 6.5, because that's the oldest version that includes support for IIRC libasound. I used to build on 5.3 but the sound support was missing. One looses either way. What versions of libcrypto.so & libssl.so on your Ubuntu? Maybe I can back port an older version to my CentOS 6.5 build machine.

The naming is different… And there are different and _incompatible_ openssls on differens debians/ubuntus…
What I now did: Pull LibreSSL 2.1.6, and compile SqueakSSL statically. This is here: https://netshed.de/~tobias/squeakssl_libressl/SqueakSSL
This should work on both CentOS/RedHat/SuSE and Debian/Ubuntu/Mint.
