why does GStreamerPlugin needs to override positive64BitIntegerFor:

GStreamerPlugin does override several methods (well the selector change but the intention is clear) : positive64BitIntegerForOverride: signed64BitIntegerForOverride: signed32BitValueOfOverride: signed64BitValueOfOverride: Does anybody knows why? This seems obsolete to me. Nicolas

SPI Plugin for Raspberry PI

Hi everyone, I'm going to be upgrading one of my robots with a Raspberry PI, and I need it to talk to an Arduino over SPI (using level converters to switch from 3.3 to 5 volts). So, I need to write an SPI plugin, which I assume should be very similar (at least under linux) to the SerialPlugin. Okay, so now that I have a working release VM built, and I know that my build environment is sane-ish (thanks Derek!) I'd like to checkout the bleeding edge and then VMMaker my way through. vm-display-X11 not getting built under Raspbian

I'm trying to build Squeak-4.10.2.2614-src under Raspbian Wheezy on a model-B Pi, which is a lot more fun to say than I thought it would be. Ultimately I want to install it along side of the vm that comes with Raspbian so I can track vm development on the device without borking Scratch. It looks like for some reason the X11 bits aren't getting made, and I don't know why. I'm guessing it didn't find some dependency it was looking for and gave up on X11. The X window system is totally present and running happily fwiw. I think I've followed the instructions in the README file to the letter, but I do make mistakes sometimes. Below is the output from the configuration script. [PATCH 3/3] ALSA: be sensible with buffering thresholds

At http://dev.laptop.org/ticket/12400 we find that Scratch cannot play sound when the sound hardware buffer is small. The error "snd_pcm_writei returned -11" is produced and there is no audible output. This happens because the ALSA backend requests that the sound playback does not start until 7/8 of the sound has been buffered in hardware. That is quite a significant amount of buffering to ask for, and in this case, buffer space ran out before that threshold had been hit. Improve this code to be more realistic about these thresholds. I copied the logic from aplay, which hopefully knows what it is doing. I also made the same changes to the recording path, based on what arecord does by default. [PATCH 2/3] ALSA: Don't pass uninitialized variable

The documentation on snd_pcm_hw_params_set_rate_near() and similar is not very complete, but simple experimentation shows that the dir parameter is treated as both an input and an output. This variable was uninitialized; this was causing the device open to fail on OLPC XO-4 the first time (the variable had positive contents). Given that I don't fully understand this API, I have looked towards other ALSA API users for how to fix this. Almost all users that I have found simply pass a NULL value here. A couple of others pass a variable initialized to 0. Both of those work in this case and avoid the device open failure seen on XO-4. Please add the platform code for Andreas' SqueakSSL to SVN for trunk and oscog

Ian, Eliot: When you get a chance, could you please add the platform support code for Andreas' SqueakSSL plugin to the Squeak trunk and oscog branches? Source files attached. This is Andreas' work (not mine) but I have placed the files in directories to match the platforms tree structure. Background: There has been some interest recently in getting Andreas' SqueakSSL plugin incorporated into the standard VMs. For tracking purposes I opened an entry at http://bugs.squeak.org/view.php?id=7751. Andreas' Smalltalk code is at http://www.squeaksource.com/SqueakSSL, and I have added this to the update map for trunk VMMaker. Ian, for the standard interpreter, you should be able to do "VMMaker updateFromServer" followed by "VMMakerTool forUnix" to have it added to your standard unix configuration. Eliot, you can add the plugin from http://www.squeaksource.com/SqueakSSL to your build recipe if you have not already done so. The platform support code is at http://www.squeaksource.com/SqueakSSL. I made a copy of that code, rearranging the directories to match the structure of our SVN platforms tree, attached as SqueakSSL-platforms.tar.gz. What needs to be done: Ian: This is all new code that can simply be added to the repository without side effects. I can confirm that the unix code compiles, but I have not functionally tested it. There are compiler warnings when compiling -m64, and errors for --image64, but I expect that a 32 bit compile is probably OK. There is platform support code for unix, win32, and Mac OS. I think we can assume that win32 is in good shape, and that unix is probably OK. I don't know about the Mac OS code but we should check it in regardless, and follow up on any issues as needed. Overall I do expect that some type declarations will need to be tidied up, but we should start with Andreas' code unmodified and make any necessary patches as updates to that base. Eliot: I think that the attached platforms code is more recent and more complete than what is currently in the oscog platforms tree. If so you can update your platforms code with the attached, which I believe is Andreas' most up to date work for SqueakSSLPlugin for unix, win32 and Mac OS. Thanks, Dave

Reproducible VM crash when loading FFI

Hi! In my quest to crash the vm, i've found an ugly common case :(. I am trying to port the opendbx driver to 2.0, but I'm getting vm crashes when my configuration loads FFI :(. I updated my configuration to load version 1.7 of FFI (which I assume is the latest). I tried to do it in Pharo 2.0 with latest pharovm, and with eliot's Cog 2701 from his website, failing in both cases. The snippet of code that gets a sistematic crash is: Gofer it smalltalkhubUser: 'DBXTalk' project: 'DBXTalkDriver'; package: 'ConfigurationOfOpenDBXDriver'; load. ((Smalltalk at: #ConfigurationOfOpenDBXDriver) project version:#stable) load This snippet crashes always with a segmentation fault (at least the fifteen times i tried :), with several different output in the console... Surprisingly, if I load FFI alone and not from the OpenDBXDriver configuration, it loads well... :/ So I'm deferring the OpenDBX port a bit longer :( Thanks! Guille
