Problem with Proxies, objects and MethoDict

Hi folks. I am trying to do something and I found a VM crash. Suppose I want to swap out a class, do a become with a proxy (that with the DNU will load the class back). In addition, I have instances of the swapped class. Example of code (will crash in the last line): o := MyObject new. o foo: 123. p := ClassProxy new. p become: MyObject. o == nil. o foo. My Object just extends Object, has an instVar 'foo', and implements the accessors. ClassProxy implements: become: aClass className := aClass name. aClass fileOut. super become: aClass and doesNotUnderstand: aMessage | reloadedClass | (FileStream fileNamed: className, '.st') fileIn. reloadedClass := Smalltalk at: className. self becomeForward: reloadedClass. ^aMessage sendTo: reloadedClass So....does someone know why the crash? how can I solve it ? Mariano why your proxy class does not have at least a format, methodDict and superclass? In the past Behavior new something was carashing the vm because methodDict was nil and boum it crashed. I fixed that long time ago. Now I think that a class proxy cannot be just the same as an object proxy from the vm look at structure. But if you take an external plugin, which using these functions, it won't work for both VMs. Eliot, have you considered employing a scheme, which i did for Hydra? The getVMFunctionPointerBySelector proxy function does a simple lookup in this table and returns either valid pointer to function, if it found or null if not. Plugins code generator composing a table of used VM functions, and during setInterpreterProxy() initializing this table through number of calls to getVMFunctionPointerBySelector() if one or more of retrieved function pointers is null, then it fails to initialize, and returns 0, means that this plugin can't be used with current VM. Simple. So, we can deal with the subject problem once and for all. I think with Cog you can bravely change the VM_PROXY_MAJOR number, as i did it in Hydra, so no external plugins for version 1 will run with Cog. Strange 'bug' in debugger while under Cog

I trying to debug the following method: discoverPlatformId | platId | "should not use it, if Current already set" self assert: (Current isNil). platId := self platformId. self allSubclassesDo: [:class | class targetPlatformId = platId ifTrue: [ class new " should set Current during initialization" ]]. ^ Current when i step over 'self platformId.' it sets platId to false, however, when i evaluating (self platformId) it answers 3, as it should be, because this number is hardcoded in plugin and never changes, also, even if this primitive fails (no plugin available), the method should answer nil, but not false: platformId <primitive: 'primitivePlatformId' module: 'NativeBoostPlugin'> " do not fail, answer nil instead" ^ nil Here the source code of primitive: primitivePlatformId <export: true> "return a platform id code" interpreterProxy pop: interpreterProxy methodArgumentCount + 1 thenPush: ( interpreterProxy integerObjectOf: PlatformId ). Cog takes over .image files on Mac

Hi, When I download Cog 5.8b6, after opening a cog image, it gets associated with all .image files even if I never requested it to. Then, when I try to open one of many non-cog images, I get an Apple error report. If I open a Finder information dialog on a .image file and set the non-Cog VM to open all .image files, it doesn't work. I'm using Mac OS 10.6.4. Has anyone else experienced this? How can this be fixed?
