BitBlt looking for rule blitting an alpha mask + constant color

Hello, to what i see, there is no rule, which can use following formula: result = constanColor * srcAlpha + (destColor * ( 1-srcAlpha)) where scrAlpha is taken from source form, and if source form is 8 bit depth, it is assumed that form contains no RGB data, only alpha channel. A rule 41 is more generic, but requires to convert a source form to 32bpp before blitting :( Maybe it worth modifying rule 41 to allow 8bit forms? Or maybe its worth introducing a new one? What you think? This new rule is essentially useful for freetype plugin, which receives an opacity mask from freetype library. But unfortunately, because we don't have such rule, we can't use a bitmap, produced by freetype, directly unless converting it to 32bpp. Or maybe we can, but looking at freetype font cache code, it seems that every form is converted to 32bpp before placing in cache. Being able to operate with 8bpp alpha-masks will reduce a memory footprint & increase rendering speed considerably. -- Best regards, Igor Stasenko AKA sig.

Debugging VM

Hi, I cross-debug the activities of a Unix-VM running on a PowerPC/Linux embedded system. 1. Via gdbserver/gdb I am able to see that main() is executed up to the point where the interpreter is called 2. I can also set a breakpoint at the switch(currentBytecode) of the interpreter and break there once 3. After continuing I do not come back to this breakpoint a second time 4. I can interrupt execution with Ctrl-C (SIGINT) and tell gdb: call printAllStacks(). This yields what is shown at the end of the mail 5. I use Cuis1.0-0204 which fits nicely in my 16MB flash memory. I modified it so that an early alife-message is sent to stderr. This is done when executing the class method startUp of the Delay class. This works well on my intel/Linux desktop system. But I do not get there on my PowerPC/Linux embedded system. 6. I use Bert Freudenbergs changesets to print SqueakDebug.log on stderr. They work well on intel/Linux but on the embedded system I apparently do not get a MNU. What possibilities do I have to get further diagnosis? A last question: There is a document "porting1.pdf" written by Ian Piumarta which might be helpful. Does anybody know where I can download a readable copy? Getting InterpreterSimulator working

Is it possible to use the InterpreterSimulator in a 3.10.2 image on a 3.10.2 image? If so, can anyone point me to some docs on how to get it going? I've successfully followed the VMMaker docs but get 'Error: incompatible image format' when I try to fire up InterpreterSimulator. Thanks, Phil

Integration of bitShift: speed up

There is another change I'd like to see integrated. That is http://bugs.squeak.org/view.php?id=7109. If you want to compare to existing code, be aware I renamed #cCoreBytesRshiftCount:n:m:f:bytes:from:len:to:len: to: #cCoreBytesRshiftCount:n:f:bytes:from:len:to:len: the m: was useless, at least in new implementation... cheers Nicolas

Multiple images listening on same TCP port

Hi, On the Mac VM, when starting a second image with the same VM as an already running image, the second image opens the same TCP ports as the first image. It is easy to see this. Start image A and do: s := Socket newTCP. s listenOn: 7777. as expected: lsof -i | grep Squeak Squeak 1747 adrian 9u IPv4 0x9dafa68 0t0 TCP *:cbt (LISTEN) Now, start image B (PID 1752). lsof -i | grep Squeak Squeak 1747 adrian 9u IPv4 0x9dafa68 0t0 TCP *:cbt (LISTEN) Squeak 1752 adrian 9u IPv4 0x9dafa68 0t0 TCP *:cbt (LISTEN) It will also listen on port 7777... Debian VM shaky under VMWare I think...

Hi folks! I was rigging a VMWare image yesterday based on Debian 5.0 (Lenny) and I decided to apt-get squeak-vm instead of building my own. This gave me a 3.10.3 VM I think. After some work I noticed that it was clearly shaky - seemed to be related to socket stuff. I don't have the errors handy, at one time it even segfaulted. I ended up building a 3.10.5 from src and got no issues after that. Just a heads up. Sorry for the lack of info. regards, Göran
