Streaming directly from WebResponse content to SketchMorph

Hello, Is it possible to stream an image (png) directly from WebResponse to a SketchMorph ? I'd like to avoid the burden of saving image in temporary file to load it into a SketchMorph. Tried something like: ... response contentStream binary. sm := SketchMorph fromStream: resp contentStream. It fails. Don't know image type. An alternative would be creating a socket interface so I stream image to socket and read from the socket... but it would be verbose... would involve forking... would be kind of a dirty job. [ response streamTo: sock size: response contentLength progress: nil ] fork. (...) sm := SketchMorph fromStream: sock. (...) definition of Cursor in the Mac VM build?

Hi-- I'm trying to build the Squeak VM on Mac OS X (10.7 or 10.8, Xcode 4.1 or 4.5). The build is getting hung up on the global: Cursor macCursor in sqMacWindowUniversal.c, for example. [OT - news ] Apple removes Java from all OSX Web browsers

http://arstechnica.com/apple/2012/10/apple-removes-java-from-all-os-x-web-b… That's interesting. Java was chosen over Smalltalk for inclusion in Netscape navigator. Now it's out. I wonder if this will happen with other browsers? Looks like Java has been pushed aside by JavaScript. Chris

Thanks for all your help. I really appreciate being able to knock things about before I code. And thanks for the code snippets I always find something useful in them. David spoke about a RDB and a Table object. I have always thought a Table object would very handy to have in smalltalk. But I never see it. There is a Matrix. Maybe that can be used. Or am I missing out on the power of defining my own arbitrary objects and just keeping them in a collection? Sincerely, Joe.

Greetings, I have several Accounts and the accounts have Transactions. My plan was to instantiate a Transaction and to populate it from a file, and then have each of the Transactions attach themselves to an Account. This is a sort of bottom up design. The problem is that I have a bunch of Accounts and Transactions running around the system and no tools for working with them. I can do Accounts allInstances do: []. But then I also get old instances (from debugging). Is this a good way of doing things? Do I need to have some Collection somewhere, so I can go and find each item when I need it? Like a common control mechanism? And if so, what would it look like? Do you think I should create a list of accounts and then each Account will have a list of Transactions? The old top down approach? Present: Craig Latta, Chris Muller, Colin Putney, Levente Uzonyi - There are plans to replace squeak.org with a new site based on Colin's Altitude web-framework. The SFC has suggested including a Flattr [1] contribution on member-project web-sites, which will be considered for the new site. - A continuation of last Saturday's Squeak hangout discussion occurred where Tim Rowledge presented a discussion about transparent access to native OS processes from within the image. - Meanwhile, Craig is planning his next release of Spoon, which is becoming ready for mainstream consumption. This project will be very exciting for Squeak as it promises to help address many long-time concerns of the community such as modularity, distribution and scale. - 4.4 is planned for release this month while energy is building for 4.5. Colin wants full Environments in 4.5, as well as adoption of his FileSystem framework. Chris Muller wants Themes so the look of the system can be more easily customized and also inclusion (or easy loadability) of the latest Refactoring Engine. We also want to finally begin purging long-deprecated code. - While there is a lot of work to be done, a general feeling of satisfaction with Squeak's status, capability and future potential was expressed. [ANN] Phobos for Squeak

Hi, I created a port of Phobos (framework for creation of native user interface using XULRunner) to Squeak too. http://code.google.com/p/phobos-framework/ It uses WebClient instead of Zinc. Article On Modern Smalltalk

Hello, folks-- I've been commissioned to write an article on modern Smalltalk and wanted to solicit feedback on what people thought the most interesting and useful aspects to cover would be. Obviously I wanted to talk about Squeak, Pharo, Amber, and at least touch on Lively, and talk about the commercial offerings (Dolphin, VAST, VW), and then there's Seaside and GLORP and Spoon and Cuis and...etc. etc. etc. Since it's not a book, I can't possibly cover everything, so I want to hit the highlights, and I'm trying to avoid being overly insular (e.g., only talking about what are the highlights for me). Any and all comments welcome. ===Blake===
