'SUnit improved' has a TestReporter, since Jan/Feb 2007. It is designed to be invoked from the command line on any image, and to work headless if desired. It generates results to files, the idea being that the progress can be observed remotely via ftp or http. Failures and Errors are generated in a file form that can be viewed remotely, but selected failures/errors can be run by doiting the line of the output file. There is one file which has a byte written per test so that you can see progress remotely just by looking at the file size in a web /dir/ftp browser. There are also custom icons for apache to show pass/fail/errors etc though I am not sure where I have put them. === Please please please, you pharo guys, actually look at SUnit improved, before doing other things with SUnit, I put a lot of effort in to it, over the past 2 years. The latest suite defining and building architecture is really cool. It uses less code than the old system and is better factored to achieve more. For those of us that are interested in developing packages that everyone can use, we need a coherant story accross the board so that we can write tests and flag which images we expect them to work in. 'SUnit improved' has this in TestCaseVersioned. ClassClonerTestResource is another case in point, I wrote it so that we can test the class side of DateAndTime, etc, but still the wheel gets reinvented again and again. A really useful addition which I have been planning for ages, but you would be welcome to have a go at, would be excellent if SSpec specs could be run in the same ui. cheers Keith p.s. Bug with valueWithReceiver:arguments:

Hello, I found a fondamental bug in Squeak and Pharo. The next code 11 / 2 gives the fraction (11/2). It's correct. But the next code (SmallInteger>>#/) valueWithReceiver: 11 arguments: {2} gives 1 ! The problem is the method valueWithReceiver:arguements: is used hugely with method wrappers... After long time of debugging, I found a point to debug: this method don't have the good behavior with compiled methods having a primitive that fails and executes some code after (as in SmallInteger>>#/ method when the division don't give a whole integer). In fact, when I send this message, the vm executes normally the compiled method but, in place of returns simply the good result, seems to rerun the the compiled method with other arguments (completly wrong) and returns so a wrong result. Community Server Report

Cross your fingers, with luck we should be good now. For over a month we've had trouble with the community server locking up and requiring a reboot. On Friday Hetzner did some testing on the server and, as I understand, traded out the RAM at least once (I believe this has been done before as well). From then on the server was up in some sense, but not working properly. Unfortunately we don't have weekend support so there was a delay. Additionally there was some confusion that resulted in further delays. On Tuesday Marcus Denker, our contact with Hetzner, convinced them to hook up a 'virtual console' to the system which allowed us to see the console output. Cees de Groot and Goran Krampe were able to run some tests that indicated that the RAM was bad. This convinced Hetzner to change the RAM again. After this the server booted up and ran fine for a few hours. Then it went down again as it has for weeks now. After the latest trouble Hetzner was convinced to do more and took the hard drive from the server and put it in another server with identical hardware. And we are up again. Hopefully this takes care of us for a while. But I think there are some things we can learn from this event and I believe some changes need to be made to how we manage the server. I'm not sure what to do right now. But I'm thinking about it and sometime soon I would like to start a discussion of the future of the server. Ken

Avoiding the VM-Quit Dialog under Windows

Hi all, I'd like to avoid/bypass the VM-quit dialog (Win32) by handling the quitting within the image. Is there any way to do this under the current Win32 VM? I know about disabling Alt-F4 and remember to have read some posts about a #windowClose event under Linux. Disabling Alt-F4 doesn't quite do the job for me, because the VM's close button is still visible to the user. So I'd like to be notified within the image if the user presses the X-button, and then have the image react accordingly. running headless

I found the following example of using the -headless command-line option related to Swiki. --- squeak -headless squeak.image config.st The Configuration File config.st looks something like this: ComSwikiLauncher allInstances do: [ :instance | instance port: 8000. instance isOn ifTrue: [ instance stopServer ]. instance startServer. ].! --- Why does the last line end in ".!"? I've been struggling for weeks to get anything to work with -headless on both Mac OS X and Windows. Based on the lack of replies to my questions on this it seems fair to conclude that this feature isn't used by most Squeak developers. Is that the case? I'd love to see a simple example of a .st file that can be used with - headless. More than anything I'd love to get some confirmation that - headless actually works for somebody. --- Mark Volkmann

Monticello duplicate package

I wrote some code on a Windows machine and wanted to use it on my Mac. Here's what I did to copy it over. 1) On the Windows machine I created a new Monticello package containing the code. 2) On the Mac machine I loaded that package. In my browser I see two entries for the package which I named "Volkmann-Morphic". Here's a screenshot of part of the category pane. Any idea why it did this? They both contain the same code. If I delete one, they both go away. --- Mark Volkmann
