The way I rewrote them increased the size of the resulting bytecodes, considerably in the case of large blocks of code and even more with nested messages that also get macro transformed. I basically wrote a macro that would test if the receiver was a Boolean, in the case of #ifTrue:, or that the receiver was a block in the case of #whileFalse:. The ifTrue branch of the test holds the original optimized macro expansion, while the ifFalse branch of the test holds the bytecodes to do a real message send. Now the unfortunate part: each branch needs it own block bytecodes, so it duplicates the block creation. I wish I could do it with one block creation shared between the two uses of it (macro and normal) but I don't see it. I'd love to learn otherwise. Finally, this is so that all existing methods in the image would get recompiled. So there already exist methods that are ok in size now, but exceed this size limit when my macro transformations are applied. Is 1024 the limit a long jump can make and so this represents a hard error? Would it be possible to code a bytecode (say 127) to use 2 extra bytes for an extraLongJump instruction to get around this?

Igor, I'm afraid you've lost me. What would the bytecodes look like in your proposal? From what you've said, wouldn't the #jumpFalse need to know what the literal to send is? Hi John, I was digging a little bit in the history of #show: of TranscriptStream. From there #endEntry. As far as I'm right after each entry the stream will be reseted. So you can't get the contents of the stream. This behavior is there since 2001. Not helping but an explanation. Squeak low on space...

Hi! During my experimentations with Player/Stage under Squeak, I came upon a strange "behavior". Squeak randomly crashes, and I don't know why. Probably it's due to a memory leak or something, because I can see a very quick memory consumptions jump in top. Basically Squeak runs for a time completely normally, consuming like 3.8 MB of memory. Then it just jumps to 16 MB and Squeak crashes. Sometimes I get a warning, that Squeak is low on space/memory. I'm attaching the log generated. I'm heavily spawning processes and using socket communication, so I guess the problem will be in process handling somewhere or in socket usage. Can you figure out something from the log?
