Dear squeakers, Hello, and welcome back to The Weekly Squeak, a weekly report on what's going on in the world of Squeak. We're back! Due to some personal problems of some member of the News Team (mostly of its team leader, who was and still is swamped in pre-graduation work), we had to suspend the pubblication of The Weekly Squeak. In the coming days, we'll try to recover with the pubblication of Light Editions of TWS. These light editions will contain pointers to interesting and useful messages which have been sent to the various Squeak-related mailing lists. Alan, Thank you for the essay. Ive had to deal extensively with this problem. We developed a system that distributed drugs to thousands of people, and having a system that was accurate to the second was an essential requirement. The hardest part of this problem was the time zone issues, but what was also difficult was determining from the application which time calculations were durations, and which were calendar based. This is really not that easy especially in pharmacy applications. As an example: A nursing home gives its morning meds every day at 9am. When DST comes around they still want to give their meds at 9am. But some meds are given every 4 hours. Imagine getting your pain med 1 hour later or 1 hour earlier! It makes time problems very interesting! Windows process info from Squeak

Hello Is there a way to get information about Windows XP processes from Squeak? Smth like how much RAM is the process using? What is PID of the process? And so on. Any hints or workaraunds are very much welcome. Best regards, Valdas Bucinskas

Remove Changes/Sources files in end-user distribution

I have located in class FileDirectory (and, IMO, the wrongest place for this to be) the spot where Squeak complains if the Changes and Sources files are missing/unreadable/unwritable. To trim down my end- user distribution, I'd like to silence the complaints and not include these files (my user base will not be accessing Squeak in such a way that these files will be beneficial to them). I did a couple of class-recompilation tests, which seem to work fine. The question is: can I get away with not including either of these files in an installation where some classes/methods will be re- compiled via update streams? Is there some hidden necessity to having these two files present in the installation? Performance of Piano Keyboard morf

I've been hardware-hacking on my speakers and was trying to test them using PianoKeyboardMorph. I rigged it to offer all 8 octaves and to transcript the base frequency... The lower notes sound fine but the higher ones seem to have some issues. (I am trying to figure out whether this is due to a problem with the generator or an issue with the hardware mods I have made..) My new tweeter cuts in somewhere around 2,200 and the custom crossover is supposed to do the handoff at 3,500 The weird frequencies are: 2217.4 (somewhat modulated...) 3729.3 (Sounds like it's an octive lower than it should be..) 4434.9 (Sounds like there's a roughly 65 hz co-tone..) 5274.0 (sounds lower than it sohuld be. ) 7458.0 (loudest frequency seems to be in the mid 100's...) I think I reset the instrument to default, I think it's playing as an oboe but this class is not factored especially well and its difficult to figure out exactly what it's doing... -- Don't let your schoolwork get in the way of your learning. http://users.rcn.com/alangrimes/ (for some reason Charleston SC is back in my signature... Stripping 3.9 to learn producing 3.9Basic

Hi all I'm looking for some experimenters to see now that we have 3.9 with packages what are the packages that we can remove to produce 3.9Basic. I'm playing with the class ReleaseBuilder and I would appreciate any help in that direction. Stef
