In version 2.7, the class comment says: "They also support reasonable text-editing capabilities, as well as imbedded hot links, and the (soon to be released) ability to embed submorphs in the text." Is there a newer version of Squeak (2.8, 2.9?) that has this (embedded sub-morphs) in it? This is one of the fundamental parts of the web browser, and if someone else has already done this, then there's not much point in replicating all that work... This is great work Henrik! Thanks for the pictures & for the pro-offered code. I, for one, would love see your changesets. On the subject of alternative UI, wouldn't it be great if we could provide several "canned" UIs with Squeak? I've seen lots of interesting pictures on the Swiki that show what can be done, but nobody's put them together in such a way that they can be chosen from the Preferences panel. Methinks that would be a wonderful gift to the community -- it would really show off the power of Squeak. Thanks again, ---==> Chris

Squeak is a real Smalltalk, and PIC/Smalltalk is just a macro assembler. If you need to use PICs, then it works nicely, but personally I wouldn't want to write autonomous control software in it. Real-time control software is another matter -- it does great at that level of stuff. Right now it only writes code for 16F84, and has no built-in support for any of the advanced PIC chips on the market (like the 16F87x family). I have a big wish-list of changes I want to make to it, but right now my priorities are building MicroSeeker, not working on PIC/Smalltalk. I suspect that after I get the first version of MicroSeeker working sometime this summer, I will start working on a new better version of PIC/Smalltalk. But in the meantime I will probably port the development system to Squeak and stick it out on the net, with big disclaimers. Programming 8 bit RISC micro-controllers is a black art, and I don't want to get a thousand emails asking how to make PIC/Smalltalk communicate with some serial device or drive stepper motors or whatever... I think the ANSI Date And Time protocol messages should do the above. I've implemented in Squeak it along with all the ANSI messages except for Stream and FileStream protocols and maybe a couple Collection protocol messages. I've reworked the Camp Smalltalk ANSI tests for Squeak released by Ralph E. Johnson for my ANSI implementation. The reworked version, ANSIChgSeta02r01Sqkv02r07.ZIP, containing Squeak ANSI messages, tests, and support is now available at my web page: http://homepage2.rconnect.com/raharmon/ I think Squeak Central is looking at incorporating the ANSI messages in the standard release.
