I'm repeatedly having crashes on the Win32 VM at about 200. Have not yet tested the Mac VM (other stuff running ;'). I'm still hammering on display postscript...
I have no sense of what the problem might be. However, here are two thoughts:
1. If you are mystified by the crashes, look in Debugger class>>openContext:..., and you'll see some code that can be enabled (by changing a false to a true) that will write out the stack at the time of error on a text file. Might help. One of these days, I'll make it a simple preference.
2. If it's not repeatable, then you might want to download the files using some other flaky software, and then fileIn carefully step by step from a FileList (or, better, a doit that looks at the numbers on the files).
