The Rasbian distribution of Debian Linux is typically intended as single-user system on which you can safely assume that if the user does something dumb, then it serves him/her right when the system locks up. In the general case of a multi-user system, you don't want someone to elevate their thread priorities and accidentally lock up the entire system. That's why you are not allowed to use real time scheduling priority in ordinary user applications. Some Linux distributions enforce this by default, and others do not. On MacOS Mojave, fire up homebrew and it tells you: There are three versions of MacTeX. Full installation: brew cask install mactex Full installation without bundled applications: brew cask install mactex-no-gui Minimal installation: brew cask install basictex This probably the easiest way to get into Tex, IMHO. CommandLineUIManager

Hi all, does Squeak already support something like a CommandLineUIManager? For example, #inform: should print the argument on stdout, #request: could read a line from stdin, and #informUserDuring: could print an ascii-styled progress bar. As far as I found out, Squeak only has a CommandLineToolSet. Am I missing a class? Do you think this would be a useful extension? Best, Christoph

Revert to previous version is broken in trunk

Since recently in trunk, perhaps the last few weeks, I find that I cannot revert to a previous version of a method from a VersionBrowser. The problem seems to be that #listSelections in the VersionBrowser is not being updated when I highlight one of the method versions in the browser window. Presumably some update mechanism has been disconnected between the PluggableListMorphPlus selections and the VersionBrowser model, but I cannot spot the problem. Can anyone think of a recent change that would cause this? Steps to reproduce: - In a SystemBrowser, select any method - Click the "versions" button to open a VersionsBrowser - The VersionsBrowser will display "Recent versions of <foo>" - Click one of the versions in the list to highlight it - Click the "revert" button Result: A UserDialogBoxMorph that says "nothing selected, so nothing done". Alien primFFICall returning struct with 64bit vm

Hi all, I'm having trouble with calling struct returning functions with alien on a 64bit linux vm using the hidden first argument mechanism [1]. The function gets called, but the result is not copied into the struct pointed by the hidden argument. I tried to debug what happens with gdb, but everything looks fine, except not getting the result back. The address is copied into %rdi (regs[0]) in dax64business.h:92 [2], which is exactly what the spec says [3]. Here is a minimal example calling a C function returning a struct with two doubles: at34 := Alien lookup: 'at34' inLibrary: 'libalientest.so'. at34 primFFICallResult: nil with: (r := Alien newC: 16) pointer. vec := (r doubleAt: 1) @ (r doubleAt: 9). r free. vec " 0.0(a)0.0 " returns 0.0(a)0.0 instead of 3.0(a)4.0 the C code goes like this: typedef struct atvect{double x, y;} atvect; atvect atv(double x, double y) { atvect v = {x, y}; return v; } atvect at34() { return atv(3.0, 4.0); } The vm is sqcogspur64linuxht 5.0-201910291408. Starting to work in my trunk image, I've easily gotten this error a couple of times the last couple of days. The first was yesterday when I clicked on the "Code" button of an .st file in the File browser. This other one, below, was when I dragged a method to a different category, which left the original selected source category empty of any methods... Looks like PluggableListMorph>>#visibleList got broken a few weeks ago by making it less defensive. Reverting it seems to clear up the issue for me, for now...
