class format

Hi, I am interested in the squeak class format word, which is an instance variable of every squeak class object. I could not find much info about it... The low 2 bits are size bits - size of what? header? Behavior>>instSize shows how to fetch the number of instance variables for an object. Thats it... For example, the format for 'Object' is 2, for 'Array' its 6402, for 'MethodContext' its 29070. Can anybody tell me what additional info is stored in this format word? - Helmut

This is only brought into the squeak45 repository because the updateURL bug causes unwanted packages to be loaded from trunk when the user selects "Update Squeak" (even though the users updateURL is set to squeak45). By bringing in from trunk, it loads in all the way to System-eem.671, which requires at least Files-cmm.131. We really need to wrangle this bug, because it essentially means we can't release 4.5 update patches correctly. The reason it does not matter is that replaceFrom:to:with:startingAt: does not care about the source and destination being the same and overlap between them. Even when the above bug puts one extra bytes in collection temporarily, the extra byte will be wiped out in the next iteration of the loop surrounding it.
