One has to collect the relevant packages in a directory (Kernel, Collections & System) and then do e.g. (SpurBootstrapMonticelloPackagePatcher new from: 'image/package-cache' to: 'image/spur-package-cache') patch and then load the packages into the Spur image. When I get my ass in gear this step should be unnecessary since http://source.squeak.org/spur is ready and waiting. So the Spur trunk for Squeak V5.0 will parallel Squeak 4.6 and hopefully supplant it soon enough. The main hold up right now is the combination of the facts that the current compaction algorithm doesn't work well, and image start-up always adds 50% of image size as free space, so the image balloons on each save. I'm finally getting back to working on the compaction algorithm after a very satisfying three weeks working with Clément Béra on Sista. So I hope to have movement on releasing Spur for the 4.6/5.0 development cycle soon. -- best, Eliot

So it seems the Smalltalk community has lost another icon. James Robertson died very suddenly this past week. I have no details, just saw a lot of posts on his Facebook profile. - Jon

The Squeak board is very pleased to report that Levente Uzonyi has volunteered to assume leadership of the box-admins team. Please give Levente your full support as he takes on this role. Like all of us, he has other demands on his time, and handling system administration issues can be difficult and occasionally thankless. Let's all help out where we can. The Board would also like to again thank Ken Causey for his excellent stewardship of the box-admins team for many years. Is a time model that allows to use dates, months, years, etc. in an easy way. After some sabbatical years, I decided to finalize my thesis and get my degree. And, as part of the last part of the investigation, I be very grateful if you, users of Chalten (if there anyone anywhere), could answer these few questions: 1. What kind of use you give? It's almost time for me to do Eater things. I have to turn away from this for a bit. I thought I'd have something concrete to show two days ago.
