Socket connection signals ought to be handled?

I’m enjoying modernising some ScratchServer code and stumbling across a lot of changes made over the years. Sockets are not something I’m very knowledgable about so this is ‘fun’, for certain unusual definitions of the word. As part of this ‘fun’ I notice that Socket>connectTo:waitForConnectionFor: (which uses Socket>waitForConnection:ifTimedOut:ifRefused:) may well raise one of two exceptions and that very few places seem to handle them, particularly a number of tests that I tried. As an example , SocketStreamTest>setUp sends connectTo:port: which will end up using the standard timeout and may raise an exception; but the test code then explicitly does some wait method (which actually re-runs the very same lower-level code and may raise the same exceptions!) and other stuff. That looks to me like out of date code that will fail oddly with current Socket code. Tests and other examples really ought to be up to date and correct so we can rely upon them to work and to explain how to Do It Right. As I say, I really don’t know Sockets. If someone loves Sockets and feels like fixing them up, I’d suggest starting by looking at senders of #connectTo:port: and spreading out from there. When I selected the link, a file dialog window opened up on my Documents folder. When I navigated to the folder that contained "Squeak-4.5-All-in-One" it was greyed out and there was nothing else to select. I have a Zip-Squeak-4.4-All-in-One.zip file that I unpacked and selected the link which opened right up. johnreed

Webteam mailing list update

I just spent too much time deleting bogus requests to the webteam mailing list. The problem was that the webteam leader was supposed to personally confirm every appeal instead of it happening by a person clicking a link in an email I believe: Frank S. Chris M. Tim R. Darius C. are now members of the webteam list. I believe this request to join was lost in the process I just went through: Colin P. Attempting to resubscribe should cure that. When subscribing, check your email Trash for your webteam-request(a)lists.squeakfoundation.org email. It often end up there. The webteam leader does not now need to personally approve every subscription, so it is to be hoped that it is working closer to as expected. In future if people post content on this list, Squeak-dev, for the website, squeak.org, I will post this message: "Please post your content to the webteam list to have your site updated." Chris

Hi all, I updated the All-In-One from 4.4 with 4.5 files (.image and .changes). I included the Cog 4.0-2776 VM for Windows and Linux (non-HT version). I tested that I could unzip and launch in Windows and Linux. I did absolutely nothing for Mac. Would someone please download the below and test it on Mac? Probably the VM should be updated too, I left it unchanged from whatever was deployed with 4.4. http://ftp.squeak.org/4.5/Squeak-4.5-All-in-One.zip

MC copying bug

So, by logging into the server, carefully monitoring the actual directory contents, I think I see what's happening. I thought maybe something wrong with my ReleaseBuilder class>>#transferCurrentPackagesAsUser:password: I used to conveniently put the baseline versions for 4.5 into the 'squeak45' repository, because some of the packages appeared to be empty. So, using just the MC UI by hand, I opened 'trunk', selected Tools-cmm.519(cmm.518).mcd and copied it to 'squeak45'. Can we copy .mcd files? Apparently not -- SqueakSource treated it as a MCZ and wrote out the contents of the mcd but under the name Tools-cmm.519.mcz. Once there, its hard to get rid of. Until we can get this fixed, please be careful not to copy MCD files!
