I know and I am all behind it, 100%. The thing is, this "history" behind the Squeak/Pharo divide is still lurking between the lines and I (personally) am tired of it. For example, I often get the feeling that my posts to this list raise replies as if I am some kind of "outsider", just because I was heavily involved in Squeak earlier or something. I am a Pharoer too. I may be more of a bystander these days than a contributor (since I don't have a lot of time to spend) - but I am only using *Pharo* these days, not Squeak. Yup, sorry Squeak, but it is just the reality. I *still* wish the best for Squeak though, and all other open source or commercial efforts in the Smalltalk arena. I think it would be nice if we all could be a little bit more positive and inclusive, especially the people who are prominent in our (overlapping) communities - you set the example. :) I really don't see any gain in Pharo spewing negatives over Squeak, Squeak is still the inheritage of Pharo and I for one am proud of the friendliness of the Smalltalk community. Nor of course see I any gain in spewing in the other direction, it goes both ways. Now, I suspect this light criticism wrapped up in smileys and all, and with all the good intentions, will still lead to negative replies. But I hope not. Perhaps time to simply move on? ;) regards, Göran PS. I love all the momentum in Pharo right now, it all looks very good, and I am itching digging into 1.4! Superb work.

The site was back up a few hours after my hanging it last night. And we've made progress making changes to the site. The Merchandise link is now gone. More pruning will happen this week. Thanks as always goes to Ken Causey. Chris

[ANN] Physical Etoys 2.0 released!

Hi everybody (and sorry if you receive multiple copies), I would like to announce a new version of Physical Etoys, now with a lot of new features: 1. First of all, it's based on Etoys 5.0 so it incorporates all the bug-fixes and new features from the Etoys release. 2. We are now focusing on the two main hardware platforms: Arduino and Lego Mindstorms Nxt. For the rest, we will publish a set of "external modules" that you can install in your Physical Etoys version. 3. Also, we now support an argentinian version of Arduino, which is called DuinoBot and it's currently being used in a lot of argentinian schools. 4. We added new devices for arduino and now we also support the use of digital devices attached to analog pins. 5. We added two new objects that let you graph the input of a variable across time and save it to a csv file. 6. We added a new programming mode that lets you compile your scripts and have them running inside the robot, in contrast to running them in the computer and communicate with the robot via bluetooth or usb. We believe this opens a lot of new posibilities for the Physical Etoys users. 7. And finally, we fixed a lot of bugs that make the software a lot more stable (or so we hope :). I would like to use this opportunity to publicly thank all the people from the Etoys community for their work on Etoys 5, this latest version is much better than the last and I encourage you all to try it. And also, I would like to announce that Physical Etoys 2.0 is going to be installed by default on all the laptops of the "Conectar igualdad" program, which is kind of like the argentinian version of OLPC (but for older students). [ELECTION] Drumroll... the result is in!

Fellow Squeakers, For this year we ended up with 468 authorized voters of which 119 voted. that gives us about 25% compared to 30% last year and 38% in 2010. Of the 468 ballots sent 53 could not be delivered. The leadership team for 2012-04-20 - 2013-04-20 (approximately) is presented below. The order reflects the ranking from the election using the default Condorcet completion rule (Beatpath/Schulze/CSSD) as customary but all the rules actually give the same top 7 choices in the same order: 1. Bert Freudenberg 2. Craig Latta 3. Colin Putney 4. Chris Muller 5. Randal Schwartz 6. Levente Uzonyi 7. Chris Cunnington And thus given the fact we only had 8 candidates this year Edgar De Cleene is the one getting left out. I salute you Edgar for running - without more than 7 candidates this election lacks credibility and this year it was darn close. Thank you. This means that Bert, Colin, Chris, Randal, Levente and Chris Cunnington will be serving one more term together with Craig Latta replacing Jecel Assumpcao.
