[Help needed] Some TTCFonts have a non-integer height.

Hi all, I have discovered some fonts (in 3.10.1) that will return not integral values for #height. This is surely the source of bugs. Has anyone working on olpc/3.8 come across this problem and found its solution? I asked a while back for help developing a suite of font tests. Sometimes it takes time for an idea to develop interest. So I am asking again. Webcam in Squeak (Videoflow)

Played with a webcam on WinVista last night and found VideoFlow framework for Squeak. (http://wiki.squeak.org/squeak/2411) I tried the DShowVideoController examples. The captured frame is displayed correctly but the update is really really slow (changes any 10 seconds) on a fast machine. When I use the WebCamMorph (which used sqWebCam.dll) the video is fast enough but the colors are totally screwed up. Changine the display depth and endianess didn't help. Camera is working with other programs. Must be a Squeak issue since using the MCI in C# works perfect. Any ideas? Thx Torsten -- GMX startet ShortView.de. Hier findest Du Leute mit Deinen Interessen! Here are the FAQs, FAQ: Is this a known issue ? Where is the place to report bugs (or check if some have already been raised) ? The best place for this info would be to start a Mantis report. (You can get a mantis acct freely and easily). A good place to start is: http://bugs.squeak.org/my_view_page.php Mantis provides a patient persistent way to focus on an issue. I use it to accumulate data on a problem until a solution can be found. It provides a place to alert the community to a problem; -accumulate facts and clues from the analysis; -publish preposed solutions and get feedback; -get solutions harvested and included into the main stream. 3.10.x - will continue to be pushed by Randal as needed. 4.x will be driven by Craig as a license-clean, modular system. Licensing issues will be addressed to Craig as he continues to be the conduit to SFLC etc. We discussed, without reaching a conclusion, the issue of naming VMs and images. We attempted, with moderate success and a few problems, the use of Qwaq Forums. [ANN] CommandShell 4.2.1

Dear David, I'm attempting to install the CommandShell package in my Squeak images and I get an "Error: only integers should be used as indices" be it in the current Squeak3.10.1-7175-basic.image as the ealier Squeak3.9-final-7067.image. Since such a thing has to be some mishap on my side as it could not have passed unnoticed by so much time since the release, I'm asking for help as I cannot figure out what I could be doing wrong.... -- Cesar Rabak GNU/Linux User 52247. Box-Admins Team Report for May, 2008

The box-admins team is reponsible for seeing that the community shared server is maintained and setting up any new features to be hosted on that server. For May, 2008: I've been largely busy with other stuff the last month but with Marcus' help we did manage to get reconnected to the hosting company's local Debian update server and get a number of updates for the server that had been delayed for a while. I want to thank the community for the monetary support needed to fund the box and remind them that the bills continue to appear and that you can currently contribute to the hosting bills by going to http://www.squeak.org/Foundation/SupportSqueak/ and purchasing a Squeak badge. Smalltalk vmParameterAt:put: ?

Hello, I am having problems parsing and reading some csv data files which are large. 25-50mb each. Each containing about 300,000 rows. In the end I will 10s of millions of objects from these files. I am using the latest squeak-dev image. My import program starts of fine, but uses almost 100% of a cpu. The image is consuming more memory as it goes, but I have only seen it get to 128mb or so. So in an effort to get my data imported so that I can study it, and not to have to use Python to do so. I started searching the squeak archives, because I thought I remember some magic settings which helped memory management, garbageCollection or something. I found the 100 million objects thread and I copied Andreas code that he uses for QF into a method to initialize the settings. Which has a lot of messages like: Smalltalk vmParameterAt: 5 put: 40000. "allocations between GCs (default: 4000)" But when I run the method I get this error. SystemDictionary(Object)>> doesNotUnderstand: #vmParameterAt:put: I opened up a couple of other clean images. Same problem. Any help understanding why that isn't working would be greatly appreciated. And how I can get it working. :) Thanks. Jimmie

Rewriting 'ReadStream on: smth'

Hi, I'm interested in enhancing the code of Pharo (and maybe Squeak if the community is interested). Currently, I'm thinking about replacing 'ReadStream on: expr' by 'expr readStream'. I can see the following advantages of this change: - no more direct reference on ReadStream where it is not necessary - allows different implementation of #readStream depending on the receiver class - clarify the code Can you detect any problem with this approach?
