Class compilation...

Hi all, Happy New Year and all that! I'm writing some stuff at the moment that involves a fair amount of Smalltalk code generation, both the creation of new classes, the compilation of methods on those new classes, and the addition of instance variables (again on the new classes). I've noticed that the addition of the variables results in the little dialogues that pop up when one, say, upgrades a package from SqueakMap (a little oval saying "[re]compiling fooclass"). I'd really like these to pop up while I'm compiling all my generated classes, as well as when adding the instance variables later on, but I can't see where or how. Any suggestions? Network+Files teams merge into I/O team

Hi All, In spirit with what I proposed about making larger teams, Göran and I decided to merge the File and Network teams. Both packages are roughly in a state of "we could do with a revamp" and they touch in many places (URL's, Streams, etcetera) so it seems a logical thing to do. For the time being, I'll lead the new team which I think is best labelled as "I/O team" (risking that we get the Midi and Serial code thrown in as well ;-)). The strategy of both teams was already closely aligned: first, vacuum Mantis during 3.9a, then decide on revamping the code. I'll wait a day to see if there are very big protests ;-), and then commence with getting the infrastructure adapted. The next team report will then have more details on the "life after 3.9" plans. newbie questions ... how to load a package from downloaded .sar file

Hello, I have been trying to load the "connectors" package into the Squeak image from a downloaded "sar" file. Is there a way to do this from the GUI? How about from a workspace? Also - Is there a way to change all of the fonts to a larger size? Is there a more appropriate email reflector for this kind of elementary questions? Thanks, Everett

MCInstaller on a stripped 3.4 image

Hi everyone, I am building the next version of my autonomous controller, and I'd like to use Monticello to move my code between my laptop development image and my stripped down major-shrunk embedded headless image. The runtime image is based on: Squeak 3.4, update #5170 Can I use MCInstaller in my headless image to load code? Or is there some better way to do this? Maybe I should take another look at Spoon... I agree with your sentiments, but then I came across one case (after ten years!) where, to my shock-and-awe (tm), case seemed appropriate. I'm interested in what you think a good alternative might be that also pays for its weight.. A key-command handler method. keyPressed caseOf: {[$c]->[self copy]. [$x]->[self cut]. [$v]->[self paste]} What's the best way other than case statement to map keyPressed to the desired action? HTTP server choices?

Hi Guys - Out of curiosity, what are the current options for running a web server in Squeak? Are all the current frameworks based on KOM or are there alternatives? If so, what are the tradeoffs? I'm basically looking for something that's small, simple to understand and extend and (hopefully) fast enough to be useful for more than a few dozen users. Thanks for any information you can provide! If both systems are up I can close either system quickly. The remaining system then takes 3 minutes or so to close .. unless I bring up the other system again when it immediately exits. This is obviously some network timeout going on. However, making sure Opera is closed before quitting makes no difference.
