Is there a way in squeak to save and restore objects to/from disk as in stx ? The #storeOn: method does not preserve object identity and does not handle circular references or does it ?

[ENH] workspaceDropPref-ls

Workspaces accepting drops is very nice. It lets you perform operations on multiple morphs from the same code window, unlike with an inspector. It's not as nice as Morphic Wrappers, but it's pretty good and it's already present in the image. This preference makes the feature more convenient for those who like it. In fact, I wonder if anyone would want to turn this preference back off after turning it on? The only thing you lose is the ability to easily place morphs over workspaces. Perhaps we could just turn this on and not make it a preference any longer? from preamble: "Change Set: workspaceDropPref-ls Date: 29 May 2002 Author: Lex Spoon Add a preference for the acceptDroppedMorphs property of workspaces. If you like this feature, then you will probably like to have it enabled for all workspaces by default." !

Self-like Prototypes in Squeak?

Hola all, I've been working on a class to give Squeak some support for prototype objects, like those found in Self or NewtonScript. I vaguely remember someone posting a changeset for something similar quite a while back, but can't find it on SqFixes or through Google. Anyone know where to find such a tasty morsel? If not, I'll post mine when it's useful. :) Regards, Aaron

Stephen Pair did some work in this area that he demonstrated at OOPSLA. Don't have an url right now but I vaguely recall a website with a download and some screenshots... In this batch of 3.3alpha updates, 4859resFix-mir.cs refers to a class ResourceCollector that is not in my 3.2 or 3.3 system. It produces walkback while trying to compile it. Is there a missing update or something out of order? Mike

When can we call 3.2 done?

Is Squeak 3.2 "done" for all intents and purposes? What else needs to be accomplished before it's declared a release? The long delay on 3.2 is causing issues for us on several fronts: - For our classes, we keep pointing students at beta/gamma versions which (last semester) disappeared from the server before the end of the semester. - I'd like to write an appendix to the White book to bring it up to date, but I'd like to do that for a real release. 3.0 is already pretty old, and 3.1 was never official. (3.3 is going to be awhile, I suspect.) Thanks for any update! Mark

I know this is a bit OT but hey... We have opened up the site now and I also translated it to english for this community! :-) If you have an account (Marcelo?) and didn't really understand what field "foretag" was then you can change this under "My WorldCup-betting"->Settings - it is the company/team that you "belong" to. :-) The english version is at: http://vm-tips.bluefish.se/vm/eng 99% is translated and the 1% left in there can perhaps be forgiven. Deleting/hiding Project windows while keeping the projects

I have a bunch of projects that I created in a certain project. But I don't want the project windows cluttering up (I've gotten thumbnails off a ProjectHistory which I've embedded in a GeeMailMorph -- verra slick). If I try to close or delete the windows, it warns me off trashing the project itself. So, I can minimize them and occlude them, but that's just plain ole tacky. What's the best/right way? I have two thoughts pulling in different directions: * Though tools need to have some way to announce their presence in the image, users should also have a way to customize what is shown where. * KISS, and get on with everything else there is to do. If anyone has something better than the current scheme, you're welcome. I consider the current situation almost good enough, certainly good enough to proceed pulling out wires.
