He's right, the "pivot" (in quicksort terms) is always selected as the first for this degenerate case, this line is at fault: [l _ l - 1. k <= l and: [self should: dij precede: (array at: l)]] whileTrue. "i.e. while dl succeeds dij" Since "self should: x precede: x" is always true for sortBlock = [:x:y | x <= y]. So l zips right to the beginning, and that's where the recursion becomes very unbalanced. I personally don't feel very much compelled to "fix" this by changing the sort. Remote access to Celeste db?

I'd like to switch to Celeste. What has kept me back from doing so is that there's no lo-tek way to access my old email remotely. Which is why I continue to use pine. By lo-tek, I mean some way that's accessible by just telnet/ssh. Up to this point, I considered eventually that I would eventually create a telnet server for Squeak, and get my email via a generic object hierarchy browser, or something primitively like pine. I'm not sure why it's escaped me, but it would be rather easy to write up a Comanche module that spit back my email over the web. Easy to send email out too. I suppose that'd make it mostly a real web-mail client, but such a single-user system should be easy to set up. Has anyone started on a project like this, or should I go ahead? I assume there would be others interested in using it? Quite honestly, I don't know if either would be "appropriate" in the sense of giving you direction... but what do I know? So for what it's worth, I have read them both and it would seem that you are beyond the white book. The blue book is interesting reading and may provide some direction by describing (on a VERY high level) what other projects have accomplished (or begun to accomplish). [BUG] Red halo menu near right edge "autoselects"

Click the red halo button for the flap closest to the right edge of the world. The menu pops up under the mouse cursor and if you don't hold down the mouse button, then the menu item under the mouse cursor receives the mouse up event. Quick tests with other morphs similarly placed revealed no problem; in those cases the menu popped up to the left of the mouse cursor. [Q][browsing] standard/whisker/RB questions

Some simple questions: (1) What is the best way to rename an instance variable. If I look up the var refs first, I cannot change the methods because the new variable name isn't there yet. If I change the variable name first I can no longer lookup the var refs. I used to add the new name first then fix the refs to the original name and then delete the original var, but that feels clumsy. (2) Is there a way to have the methods orderd in a logical (manually ordered) way rather then alphabetically ? Or is this an unusual (aka silly) thing to do ? (3) Whisker: I could not figure out how to change the category of an existing method in Whisker. (4) The refactoring browser is not ready for daily use, right ?

SUnit Woes: Object>>testing

Is Object>>testing a necessary method for some reason that I don't understand? It is an empty method and further it creates errors when running the unit tests for SUnit itself. Specifically, AllTestSelectorsFixTest>>testAllTestSelectors which is looking for 2 test selectors and because of the existence of Object>>testing it finds three. I'd take this method out, but it seems to have 20 senders so the sends would have to go also. I'm confused as to how this is supposed to work. Anybody figured this out yet? Steve Gilbert
