I apologise for sending a message with [BUG?] in its title. I thought I had found a bug. It wasn't, I had just misunderstood. I *did* find a bug while poking around (try inspecting Week fromDate: (Date today), select self, and then choose Explore; you'll get a MessageNotUnderstood) but didn't describe it.

[BUG?] 2.8 Week problem

I have a copy of Squeak 2.8 with no patches running on a PowerMac. Week fromDate: (Date today) displayed as "octoboer 2000, 6th week" which rather startled me. I looked at a calendar, and sure enough, this is the 5th week. After all, the week has started on Sunday for at least two thousand years. So I looked at the code, and found that - there is a class variable StartMonday in Week - the default setting for this is true (Monday). This is a pretty sickening design. (Thankfully the variable only affects instance creation and not the behaviour of week objects once created.) Would it not be better to have Week (abstract class) SundayWeek >>startMonday ^false MondayWeek >>startMonday ^true I can't find any method to test whether a given date is included in a Week or Month, so I've added includes: aDate ^self firstDate <= aDate and: [aDate <= self lastDate] to both classes. There are more efficient ways to do it, but this was clear.

The same problem could occur when Netscape Navigator is too smart to decompress and convert the file in a .tar.gz file. I'm pretty sure that the file at the web site is not corrupted. So, please try by using another tool or something like that. -- Yoshiki

I like your registry approach. I'd like to see the same done for file decriptors, so that sockets, sound, and anything else can use the same batch of code for monitoring descriptors. Calling back into the VM is certainly tricky. One approach would be to add a module_initialise_forUnix() function which parallels module_initialise(). Where has the GUI constructor gone?

Michael Rueger used to host the GUI constructor on his site (http://ifsl.mb.uni-magdeburg.de/~michael/gui/index.htm), but both it as well as his general page (~michael/) seem to have disappeared. Does anyone know if this is mirrored anywhere, or if Michael has moved his work elsewhere? Thanks- Aaron

Yes. I have just started to study programming for CE. Also, as I wrote in the earlier mail, you would see the following problem. I want to kown how to fix it. | A problem I see is the title bar is on the top of the screen and hide | the top of Squeak's screen. This may be one of CE 3.0 related things. Kurahara
