However, for allowing at least some access to Squeak, an icon is added to the system tray. If you double-click this icon, the Squeak window will show up again. * -log: logName Use the named file as log file for VM messages. * -service: serviceName Install Squeak as Windows NT service. You will be asked for a couple of things such as if to start the service on system startup or if to run the service right now. You can modify these settings in the service control panel. NOTE: You MUST give the entire command line as if you want to run the image immediately. The installation process will add a few registry settings to determine the command line during system start up. Example: Squeak -memory: 4 -log: C:\VM.log -service: "Squeak Sample Service" C:\Swiki\Server.image The "-service:" switch is fully supported on Win95 but has a little non-standard behavior. Squeak will show up in the system tray (just as when running -headless) because there is no such thing as a service control panel within Win95. If you want to remove a service from a Win95 system you'll have to remove the entry in the registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run [snip]

Hi, Well you could have it so that anyone who submits an item (addon, enhancement, bug fix, etc....) would get an email that asks them to add their item to a swiki page of it's own. Set up a swiki page that tells them how to add it to the swiki site. Thank you Stephen and Bob for enlightening me. I think morpic tapes are a good way to explain morphic stuff. We should create more tape files and put them on a swiki page! Squeak Central can create a Morphic-PWM-9 with Scamper showing this page and if a beginner clicks on one of the listed tapes scamper can open the recorder to play the demo. So we can create Tape-DemoWithMe's on the swiki page and so it's much easier to learn Squeak. What do you think about that ? Bye Torsten

[BUG] (I think) with class variables and changesets

Hi, I think I've found a bug with Squeak2.5.image and the Squeak 2.4 vm on Solaris, but it also seems to happen on a 68k Mac with a 2.5Vm and a 2.5 image. The problem is that adding a new class variable to an existing class seem not to get recorded in a change set. I did ../SqueakVM-2.4-sparc-solaris-2.5.1 -memory 20m Squeak2.5.image & Save the image as test.image Open a browser Go to the ServerAction class Add a new class variable Test, so the resulting display in the browser looks like: Object subclass: #ServerAction instanceVariableNames: '' classVariableNames: 'Test ' poolDictionaries: '' category: 'PluggableWebServer' Save the change (alt S). Open a Simple Change Sorter, which shows that the changes go to 'New Changes' The change set 'New Changes' is empty, and you get a note to that effect when you try to file out the changes. I've poked, but I've yet to find the reason for this. Do I misundertand something here? Thanks! cheers bruce

"fork" is unnecessary, and, indeed, doesn't do anything. But given that it *looks* like a problem with processes, you might try it without forking and see what happens. Also, try starting up PWS *after* initializeAll but *without* SwikiAction setup. My guess is that you'll get the crash, but it'd be nice to confirm. Torsten, Assuming you have created the car and the wheel (and that they have been named "car" and "wheel" in their respective viewers): 1. From the viewer for the car, drag the "car turn by..." tile from the basic section of the viewer onto the desktop. This creates a new script for the car. 2. From the viewer for the wheel, drag the "wheel heading..." tile and drop it onto the rightmost part of the "car turn by..." phrase in the script created in step 1. This part probably has up and down arrows, the number 5 and a right arrow. This is the "argument" to the turn command if you will. The phrase should now read: "car turn by wheel's heading" followed by a right arrow. 3. In the top of the script, change the status from "normal" to "ticking". This makes the script run continuously. 4. Now you can turn the car using the wheel. Bring up the halos for the wheel (cmd-click or whatever your platform uses). Grab the blue dot in the lower left and rotate the wheel. The car should turn as you rotate. 5. You will probably find the turning a bit sensitive, so scale it down: 6. In the script, click the right arrow at the end of the phrase created in step 2. This will add two additional tiles: an arithmetic operator and a number. Cycle the operator to "/" and the number to 5. This will reduce the sensitivity of the steering. 7. To make the car really drive, you need some forward motion. From the car viewer, drag the "car forward by" tile onto the script (either before or after the turn phrase already there). Now you can motor around the screen. Cheers, Bob

Drop another object (for example a star) into the BookMorph and position it over some of the text (if you use the halo to move the new morph, use the brown button not the black). Not shortly. But perhaps a hint. Create a "new scripting area" from the "authoring tools..." menu in a Morphic project. Open up a parts bin to create your drawings of a car and a steering wheel, then drop them into the scripting area. Selecting each of these objects will display a viewer, from which you can drag tiles out into the open area of the scripting window. Sequencing these tiles then gives you a "script." That you can run by hitting "!" or by selecting "ticking" from the status menu (by clicking on the button titled "Normal") on the ScriptEditor. I'll see if I can record these things using an event recorder and post the event tape. - Stephen
