I believe that Mike's thinking of the "Garnet" package for CommonLisp, which was large and complicated and not all that platform independent anyway. (I once tried to port a "portable" Garnet package from SGI to the Mac, oh boy...)
If anyone's looking for a set of potential graphics and window primitives for platform-independent GUIs, why not look at VisualWorks for ideas?
