I know that when developing a server one should not be interested in such trivialities, but, does squeak have any icons in the KDE/Linux world? At the moment on my installation squeak is a X11 logo which just feels so wrong.

I'm not quite sure about the latest squeak.org download, but IIRC the Squeakland version includes an icon, and even a menu entry ;)

Looking at the squeakland debian packages, the package "squeak" depends upon squeak-image.gz rather than squeak.image. So refuses to install (using KPackage on Knoppix)
no icons yet :-(

I can confirm that. That repository
http://squeakland.org/installers/ux/debian/
has following problems:
1. package `squeak-vm' requires `libc6' version which is not available on Sarge (Debian stable) so it cannot be installed on Sarge.
2. package `squeak' depends on virtual package `squeak-image-gz' but the repository does not contain package which would provide `squeak-image-gz' virtual package.
So at least in case of Debian, those download links are useless. Do owners of that page know that? Additionally:
3. there is a newer version of virtual machine (3.9) and the repository contains older (3.7) one.
Anyhow, here
http://minnow.cc.gatech.edu/squeak/3616
are Debian packages which work on
Sarge (Debian stable) Etch (Debian testing)
Those packages were created without heed to Knoppix but if Knoppix is derived from Etch (Debian testing), they could perhaps work for you. If you try them, please let me know.
PS: the icon is OK.
Thanks

I made this packages for the squeakland. I used lex spoons packages, modiefied the netscape plugin and adding a squeakland package.
I worked in debian testing environment at that time so the dependencies do not work under sarge. So I rebuild it for sarge put the packages here:
http://www.impara.de/~jens/debian/sarge/
- package `squeak' depends on virtual package `squeak-image-gz' but the
repository does not contain package which would provide `squeak-image-gz' virtual package.
the squeakland package package should work

`squeakland' package cannot be installed because it depends on `squeak-vm' which depends on 1. libc6 version which is not available on Sarge 2. squeak-image-gz which is not in your repository
Maybe I have made some mistake but as I see it, that repository is not usable.
Your attempt is repeated (I believe more successfully) here:
http://minnow.cc.gatech.edu/squeak/3616
and maybe also (sigh) elsewhere...

It will probably be installed at /usr/share/pixmaps/squeakland.png I like it.
