howdy all location: 'https://www.squeaksource.com/Doc' is producing some very nice output for most CustomHelp subclasses. Attached is a screenshot of DocCustomHelpToOrg toFile: PostgresV3Help with various levels folded and un-folded. DocCustomHelpToOrg toFile: HelpOnHelp goes into an infinite loop. (it shows up ok on http://menmachinesmaterials.com/SeasideDoc) DocCustomHelpToOrg toFile: MetacelloConfigurationHelp. "has a builder and pages is empty" Second, some internal limitiations. I make no allowance for a Subclass of a Help being in the superclass pages #() so some things will get rendered twice. since I DO treat subclasses of a CustomHelp to be output in org. Third, differentiating between a class and a "page" on the .org output requires a clumsy hack. I preface the bookName with (class) . You can see this in the screenshot. Typing this, I just realized that I will need a class name in there so I will know what to name the class when I go from Org to CustomHelp . I will fix that now. (done!) Fourth, there is some <cough>enhanced</cough> markup in some of the help pages that is Org markup and other wierd stuff. All that said, my primary mission is to go from Org to CustomHelp. The "Why" is that for my XTreams Parsing project I will have to learn the Monty XML packages and I want to create the help for it as I study it. I run into that stuff a lot. Another "Why" is Eliot and his request for Pragma design patterns help. Its much easier to write and edit an foo.org file and then (once I write the engine) automagically write the CustomHelp classes from it. I will start that coding tomorrow. I will be making a PEG grammar for the task and the callbacks will do the class generation for me (i hope) cheers. t

Hi folks I downloaded the latest Squeak from trunk (looking good btw, and very fast) After installation and adding the options in the wizard, I am getting: C standard library not available. Please check module name in preferences. Error: External module not found I am running Slackware Linux 64. Slackware has an oddity about it in that the core libraries are in /lib64 instead of /lib in case you suspect its a path issue. Hi Folks I am working on dumping the contents of a CustomHelp to a foo.org file in Org format as a first stab at a markup. It is going ok, but I really stink at Streams, so I thought I would ask here for pointers. I am getting "ok" output, but the first issue is that the entire output is wrapped in single quotes. Here is the "collapsed" output with the first sub-section named "Overview" expanded. Notice the single quote right at the beginning and the single quote at the very end. I tried to copy up my local repository version to upgrade the tty.5 version on the remote repo Name: PostgresV3-Help-tty.6 Author: tty Time: 4 September 2021, 2:00:49.403572 pm UUID: dab5f4b6-7f30-467c-ae05-8ce3e6c8b1f7 Ancestors: PostgresV3-Help-tty.5 Removed PostgresV3HelpForumPosts from PostgresV3Help->pages. The Help mechanism will pick it up normally as it is part of the subclass tree of PostgresV3Help. Having it in pages was a redundancy. It is a very small change if anybody with write permission cares to make it. Just navigate to PostgresV3Help class side -> pages and remove the PostgresV3HelpForumPosts entry from the collection. It is redundant to have it there as the Help system automagically picks up the class tree containing it. cheers, t

Image damaged due to IO error while saving

Hi all, some months ago, I corrupted my image by accidentally shutting down the host system while saving the image file (many of my images are > 500 MB, so this can take a few seconds even on an SSD). The same can happen due to various other IO/connection issues, so here's an idea: Couldn't we always use overwrite-by-rename when saving the image file? I. e., first the image into a new temporary file and, after saving has completed, replace the original file with that temp file (via mv)? This would ensure the image file's integrity. A possible disadvantage, though, would be that some filesystems, such as NTFS, associate meta-information with the file identity, which changes when using the overwrite-by-rename approach. Also, technologies such as FileSystemWatcher would be confused for the same reason. However, afaik overwrite-by-rename is a quite common approach, in primary for big and sensitive files. However, what are your opinions about this topic? :-) Best, Christoph
