Hi all, I just took the todays Trunk image (Squeak4.5-13148#712) (NameVersion-Update#CIJob) and ran SystemNavigation default obsoleteBehaviors and got {AnObsoleteBlueSmallLandColorTheme . AnObsoleteSmallLandColorTheme . AnObsoleteSmallLandColorTheme class . AnObsoleteBlueSmallLandColorTheme class . AnObsoleteToolBuilderTests class . AnObsoleteToolBuilderTests . AnObsoleteBindingTest class . AnObsoleteBindingTest} We should fix that. It breaks at least Smalltalk unloadReloadablePackages What is the best way? A postscript in a System Package change? Honestly, the comment for #askIfAddStyle:req: says: "Ask the user if we have a complex style (i.e. bold) for the first time" But with Shout, does this even matter? Hi all, the current trunk image cannot be opened in the official[1] Squeak Interpreter VM: /Applications/Squeak\ 4.2.5beta1U.app/Contents/MacOS/Squeak\ VM\ Opt /Users/tobias/Downloads/TrunkImage/Squeak4.5-13148.image This interpreter (vers. 0) cannot read image file (vers. 6505). Press CR to quit... What should we do? Best -Tobias

Dear Squeakers I give up. For roughly 6 hours I try to shrink my image using Smalltalk unloadReloadablePackages It simply does not work currently. I have the said trunk image (Squeak4.5-13148#712) (NameVersion-Update#CIJob) but with the obsoletes removed as I explained a few emails ago. But to no avail. * Sometimes (!) ReleaseBuilder retains some obsoletes. (removing the Obsoletes some time later with fixObsoleteReferences works, but mostly not during unload) * same for VersionNumber-bla * SMLoader always retains obsoletes * Services-Base itches itself: When its ServiceRegistry's #isInteractive was unloaded, ServiceRegistry gets called again and calls #isInteractive on its current, resulting in an DNU. Issuing Smalltalk at: #SystemChangeNotifier ifPresent: [:scn | scn uniqueInstance noMoreNotificationsFor: ServiceRegistry]. manually works, but not as a #preambleOfRemoval. And now I gave up. If someone has, pleas send me a stripped image. Tanks. Best -Tobias .

Thanks, Dave, for restoring Transcripter to its original glory AND BETTER, because it now works in both Morphic and ST80. One small niggle remains. Transcripter's still in the wrong package. Where should it live? I'm tempted to say "System" because that's currently the home of all the other application-level hook points (the AppRegistry subclasses, for instance). I say "tempted" because I do tend to rant about the size of System, and how it does too many things. However, System does form, at present at least, a reasonable point of separation between "core" stuff and "UI" stuff (Morphic, ST80). So, before I put my foot in it again, I'd like to propose that we move Transcripter to System because * it breaks another strand in the Collections -> System dependency, and * System's where all the other "UI and higher" hook points already live.
