I won't. Moving the discussion to another list is OK for core programmers, they will subscribe. But not only implementation details are discussed here, some features that might have impact on daily programming also are. A user who won't subscribe will loose : - ability to control activity of core developpers, - ability to participate actively on a specific new feature they want or want not, - ability to request maintaining compatibility on a deprecated feature. That's one goal of trunk if I understood it : raise an interest in participating in core development, be it by some code input, or by negative feedback about some changes. I think it is essential, unless everyone is satisfied with current state of Squeak. After all, I don't care, because fortunately there is also Pharo. Better having two horses than one. Pharo was the main reason for raising a trunk wasn't it ? Nicolas

Typo TheWorldMenu>>setDisplayDepth...

I found this little typo in TheWorldMenu>>setDisplayDepth. Now you can change the display depth of the image again. Between - the default display depth is 32-bit big endian. But my Intel-box is little endian? Is there a speed boost using a 32bit little endian display depth? Thanks, Marco Schmidt

Issue with traits

Create a trait: Trait named: #ABBA uses: {} category: 'ABBA'. - add a method #foo to ABBA trait Then create 2 classes which using it: Object subclass: #ABBAB uses: ABBA instanceVariableNames: '' classVariableNames: '' poolDictionaries: '' category: 'ABBA'. Object subclass: #ABBAC uses: ABBA instanceVariableNames: '' classVariableNames: '' poolDictionaries: '' category: 'ABBA'. now what i found interesting: (ABBAB methodDict at: #foo) == (ABBAC methodDict at: #foo) but as side effect, we got this one: (ABBAB methodDict at: #foo) methodClass ==> ABBAC which i find a bit disturbing :( I'm not sure if given issue could have a major impact somewhere... But i would just #clone the trait method before installing it.. Yes, it takes more space, but it makes each of such methods unrelated. And i strongly assume that these methods should be unrelated, and moreover, recompiled for each class separately, because global var in one class could be a class var in another one, so a trait method, like: foo ^ Bar will behave depending on class environment. -- Best regards, Igor Stasenko AKA sig.
