Hi Sophie, you can start Sophie in the normal way. After the startup is proceed go to the File-Menue and klick on exit. The sophie-system will be closed and you are in the squeak-system below sophie. Sapphire is a good news

Hi all, From the Sapphire web site I read: Sapphire wants to take a fresh look at the Smalltalk philosophy and current implementations. The idea is to produce high quality open-source packages that will be loadable on a micro kernel. As some of you know, I was a Smalltalk fan&developer in the last twelve years. I have stopped working on smalltalk years ago... anyway, I am happy to look forward the Squeak Smalltalk Community from time to time. I have republished an article on my blog, posted by me on SqueakPeople, over 4 years ago: http://blog.objectsroot.com/blog/2008/apr/29/boosting-squeak-rocksolid-imag… The reason of this republish is simple: I am very happy to see a Squeak code fork called "Sapphire" which share most of my thoughts. I do not love code forks, and I avoided carefully them while working for the Squeak Community. Anyway, after some discussion I have seen on the list, I think Sapphire is a good idea, and it should work nicely with Squeak main code trunk, and vice-versa. I will take a look to Sapphire, and you will find my throughts in the next months on my blog. You are free to leave comment on my blog. Undoable environment ?

I have commands that I would like to make undoable. Is it possible to wrap the commands within an "undoable" environment as suggested in http://www.ceteva.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=17 I imagine something like this (but wouldn't know where to start): A>>setFoo: aFoo Undoable newOn: [ foo := aFoo ] A>>setBar: aBar Undoable newOn: [ bar := aBar ] a := A new foo: 0; bar: 0; yourself. a setFoo: 5. a setBar: 10. Squeak on Linux

Hi all, I'm sure I'm missing something but I just can't get Squeak to run on Linux. I'm following the INSTALL notes so run /bin/sh INSTALL and it keeps on telling me that it can't find the binaries/libraries for i686-pc-linux-gnuoldld. I get this both on Mandrake Spring 2007 (running Gnome) and Puppy Linux (a very fast very slim Linux) which uses Xorg and Xversa as windows managers. Should I pick up some other binaries/libraries or is there something else I have to do? I've tried numerous different versions of the vm (3.0, 3.6, 3.9) but all with the same result. MessageSet looks to be part of a whole different toolset which has some Morphic stuff in it. building Hydra

Ok, I was trying to make a bit more progress in building a hydra VM for non-windows machines. I was going to ask about the intent of the changes in primitiveSignalAtMilliseconds and the removal of nextWakeupTick but then figured it out, however I'll just continue writing in case someone else runs across this question. In the original code nextWakeupTick was set to the millisecond clock value when the next Delay wakeup needed service. The process scheduler when it found no more work to be done would call the idle process which calls ioRelinquishProcessorForMicroseconds That routine at least on the macintosh would then ask for the nextWakeupTick and if it was in the future it would sleep until that time, or some other UI or async interrupt (file/socket) occurred. Then wakeup and return control to the process scheduler which likely would find a Delay to service or some sort of pending interrupt. But in the Hydra VM I see nextWakeupTick is gone and replaced with event = WIN32_STATE(wakeUpEvent); which I'm assuming is trying to do the same type of activity but in a more windows centric manner? so it appears then that ioScheduleTimerSemaphoreSignalAt passes in the next wakeup time, then later in ioRelinquishProcessorForMicroseconds you take that data and do the proper wait. -- = = = ======================================================================== John M.
