Dan, Wow. This is unknown territory to me. Can you point me towards some kind of example of initializing an FMSound in this way to start trying to figure out what you meant by all of that? Once I have a place to start I can usually get somewhere (although my debugging skills are still sort of limited to adding a bunch of "Transcript show: ..." code to a method). I still consider myself new to Squeak and have realized that it is not the language that is difficult, but the complexity of the problems (and therefore solutions) that are "documented" in the code that everyone advises you to read to learn from. It's not that it's hard to find some code that does something, it's hard understanding what it does! For me, it's an endless loop of struggling to figure out how to do something because I can't understand how something I DO know how to use does what it does, etc, etc... I think this is what many people are referring to with the many posts about the "Elephant through the keyhole." From my point of view, Squeak is being used by very smart people solving difficult, specialized problems--not by ordinary programmers using Squeak to do things that many other people do as well. Thus, because Squeak is not "mainstream", it's not like you can just find a code snippet that does what you want with a few Internet searches to begin your exploration like you can with the endless varieties of VB or .NET, but I find myself increasingly drawn to Squeak nonetheless because it feels like anything is possible with an EQUAL amount of elegance. The same things are possible in other languages, too (if the computer can do it!), but the solutions often feel like a hack. I use a lot of VBA at work, and sure, you can do it, but...yuck. Everything that you WANT to do is ALWAYS a work-around of some kind. I spent many years trying to write my own language/OS in assembly language before I even knew that Smalltalk had been invented. That's what I got for studying Physics instead of Computer Science, I guess! Well, Squeak is very nearly what I had in mind all those years, so I think my new goal is to learn how to use it and find a way to make it practically useful to the mainstream, because it has all the potential, it just needs a bridge to the everyday programmer, if not to the everyday user (those are probably two separate issues). Hi Radouane, I think you get some trouble with the size of the sourcefile. If the information in my head is right you can save 32MB. In my opinion you should condense your source. Before you start this, fileIn the fix for this from http://bugs.impara.de/view.php?id=3458. Andreas was running in trouble using: Smalltalk condenseSources. preparing the new Croquet 1.0 Beta. After fileIn that fix you can use the line above. Hope this helps! Box-Admins Team Report for April, 2006

The box-admins team is reponsible for seeing that the community shared server is maintained and setting up any new features to be hosted on that server. I said there would be more to say about the new support for Subversion on the community server. I can say that as far as I'm aware it is ready but it has not yet been fully tested nor is it being used yet. Marcus requested the setup but has not been able to come up with the time to get things started on his end yet. Hopefully he will find some time soon to work on this and will let us all know when it is ready. Responsibility for the http://ftp.squeak.org/ site was transferred to the website team some months ago but that team continued to use the account previously setup for Bruce O'Neel for updating the site. To continue the transition I went ahead and changed the configuration and permissions so now anyone with access to the website team's account on the server can also access the FTP site for updating. Unfortunately I did not take into consideration the fact that the release team would need access to add updates to the update stream and to upload new image releases. Once this was pointed out to me I went ahead and gave the release team access to the website account. This works for now but some thought needs to be given to how to better coordinate this in the future. Other than giving Marcus a hand with a mailing list issue (forwarding messages sent to old defunct ezmlm lists to the new matching mailman lists) it was otherwise a quiet month. I want to thank the community for the monetary support needed to fund these boxes and remind them that the bills continue to appear and that you can currently contribute to the hosting bills by going to http://discuss.squeakfoundation.org/ and clicking on the 'donate' button at the top right. Hi Pier, if I in the rigth way the source file contains the whole history of changes in the code. I think the most code today is stored in a monticello project or in Squeakmap. If you only interessted in working packages you only needs the working sourcecode. So you lose only the history and get enough space for new things ;-). I can't see the code of my class.

Hi, I have a serious Problem, by developing my project, all was ok. suddenly by trying to opening a class on my Browser, I get the following failure and I can't anymore open this class. All code that I writte, I can't see, but I can run my Simulation without problem, so I can nothing do by the code of this class. Please have someone an idea?. Thanks very much. Folks, Source code, pre-loaded VMM image, precompiled Linux/386 and Darwin/ PPC binaries available. http://squeakvm.org/unix/ Enjoy, Ian [3.8 was never promoted to stable, so the release notes describe the major...] Changes since 3.7-7: VM: The VM is now fully compatible with Croquet and will run both Squeak and Croquet images. Attribute 1006 answers a string describing the VM build environment. VM drivers: vm-display-X11 no longer generates Squeak KeyUp events for X KeyRelease events that came from autorepeat. Plugins: Parts of aio and sqUnixSocket modified to support asynchronous notification of i/o, and a new entry point (aioSleep) added for the benefit of the Mac VM. (In some cases it's trivial to demonstrate a factor of 2000 improvement in socket throughput.) SO_REUSEPORT has been enabled for any architectures that support it. At the time of writing Darwin does but Linux does not. UUID plugin now supported and bundled. OSProcess and XDisplayControl plugins updated from Dave Lewis's distributions and bundled. CroquetPlugin and FloatMathPlugin from Andreas are now bundled for full Croquet compatibility. Security plugin now obeys SQUEAK_USERDIR if set.

Bugs found (and fixed) in ImageImport repository
