[BUG] Criticl MultiByteFileStream and StandardFileStream in 3.8g

Hi, I have submitted some problems with MultiByteFileStream in 3.8 not being able to open on an image (.png). However if one reverts FileStream class>>concreteStream to StandardFileStream then the FileList cannot be used to open files as StandardFileStream does not implement #converter: and friends. This is a critical bug. Brent

Call for fixing/improving the SUNit TestRunner

hi all is it me or I cannot select multiple that I want to run in the TestRunner? If someone is looking for a small project this would be nice to enh or replace the TestRunner to get something a bit more decent. Because this testRunner always sucked. Any taker? Stef

Hey David great to hear from you! Maui is not a secret, but still not yet announced. It has been available on SqueakSource for some time as a prerequisite of "Magma tester", but I have not had time to put together any documentation yet as I have been preparing the new Magma. I also understand I should decouple it from Morphic to faciliate easier porting to Tweak someday, so I'll probably need at least one more iteration before the announcement. Is the Ruby group still meeting? Perhaps they'll like to see the progress since the last demo. Give me call sometime. - Chris

[ENH] LongDelay

The maximum duration of a Delay is limited by the size of a SmallInteger parameter passed to a primitive in the virtual machine. Class LongDelay implements delays of longer duration using a collection of Delays of the required total duration. LongDelay attempts to mimic the behavior of a Delay, including proper cleanup when a waiting process is terminated prior to expiration of the LongDelay. A LongDelay keeps a list of short delays, with a process that waits for all the short delays to expire. The process is given a meaningful name in the ProcessBrowser in order to reduce the risk of accidentally terminating a valid delay watcher process. To wait for one year, evaluate: (Delay forSeconds: 365 days asSeconds) wait To see how it works without waiting for a year: | time1 time2 | LongDelay initializeForTesting. time1 _ Time millisecondClockValue. (LongDelay forMilliseconds: 5731) wait inspect. time2 _ Time millisecondClockValue. LongDelay initialize. self notify: 'LongDelay returned after ', (time2 - time1) asString, ' milliseconds'. The actual duration of a scheduled LongDelay may have inaccuracies due to cumulative errors of its sequential short Delays. A LongDelay relies on a process to wait for the expiration of its sequential short Delays. If this process is terminated, the LongDelay will not complete normally. The process is given a recognizable name in order to reduce the likelihood of accidental termination. Other changes introduced by this change set: - force to integer parameters when creating a Delay (all methods) - add Delay>>#printOn: to display duration of the delay - add Delay class>>maxVal to specify maximum duration of short Delay - instantiate Delay or LongDelay as required based on duration Dave

in the comment of Color we read that we can * a color by an array to get self assert: (Color r: 1 g:0 b:0) * #(1 1 1) = Color red But (Color r: 1 g:0 b:0) * #(1 1 1) raises an error Stef

[BUG?] [OmniBrowser]

Hi in my image when I want to type a letter in the class definition pane of OmniBrowser OBSystemBrowser I get a notifier about completion. I do not know if there is a mismatch with other packages but may be this is worth reporting. I'm running a 3.8-6550 image. I use ImageReadWriter>>formFromFileNamed: which ultimately calls FileDirectory>>readOnlyFileNamed: which calls FileStream class>>concreteStream. Of course, this returns a MultiByteFileStream. My code works quite happily though - the image looks quite fine (in fact, you can see a screenshot I posted today in another thread). Can you show a code snippet illustrating the problem? Do you get debuggers popping up & whatnot? Re: Non-debuggerable situation

I'm glad we agree that it should at least not get into this situation where it allocates memory endlessly and can thus disrupt other programs running on the OS. I compared the list of ProtoObject methods in 3.7 and 3.9 and see no difference. So it must be a change in the debugger code. I also noticed it happens on my 3.8-6326 unstable image. Anyone have any ideas?
