Load the CS in a fresh 5923 image and saw that what I thought was a new feature that I didn't like was effectively a bug. The fix is good and does what it say.

In an updated 5923 image on windoz. Nothing loaded except the basics. Select open from the world menu, select morphic project. Enter the new project, return to top project. The bottom three tabs are red boxed with the yellow cross hatch and I get this walkback. Something weird here, I can't believe this hasn't been seen yet. People have pointed me towards many existing tools that turn out not to quite do the trick. After seeing your message I searched the web-accessible material on SOUL and could not find anything specific on type inference. Further, I see no mention of issues like contour splitting, block and selector types, and primitives, which would seem essential to address if you want to solve the same problem Chuck solves. Anyway, SOUL is good work and I'm sure Roel and I will have many great discussions. Just please be careful about public claims. They cost me time and pages of explanation just because otherwise people will say "I heard Stephane say that Roel has said that blah blah". -Lex

[BUG] World menu via red button

In 3.7, a full click (red button) on the desktop opens the World menu and selects whatever option happens to appear under the pointer at that location as soon as you move the pointer. Or, if you move the pointer away from the menu, it disappears. This is inconsistent, aggravating and, possibly, dangerous as the "save" command could be invoked unexpectedly saving your image before you're ready. This was not a problem in 3.6, nor is it a problem in 3.7 for other menus such as the "Personal" menu invoked with the yellow button. Also, using the escape key to bring up the world menu seems to behave correctly too.

Hi Folks, You read right, I'm going to talk about vaporware ;-). Well, not quite in fact, as some of you might on their computers something close to what I'd like to do, albeit in a different area : iTunes. Specifically, I have played a bit with iTunes' "smart playlists", and I think something similar could be implemented for browsing code in squeak (the concept is not quite new in fact, these playlists are just requests to a database in disguise, such as "select all songs form artist X longer than 5 minutes that I have rated 4 stars of more"). You could then perform requests such as : -tests : select all methods from package X, starting with "test" -non-tests : select all methods from package X, except those in "tests" -tested : select all methods in "non-tests", who are sent by methods in "tests" -hierarchy : select all methods from class X's hierarchy -recent : select the 50 latest methods accepted -private : select all methods from class C only sent by methods in C -protected : select all methods from class X only sent methods in C's hierarchy -public : select all methods in class X who are not in "private" or "protected" -undocumented : select all classes who's comment is nonexistant ;-) The interface could be the one of a message list, maybe stealing iTunes' browser, which looks really a lot like a smalltak browser already ;-). I think this kind of tool is currently missing as it could allow a much faster navigation in the system, as there is a lot of information that could be used this way. Regular browsers, or stacked code panes like Whisker's ones could then be used to actually edit code ;-). What do you think of that ? Romain

[BUG] System window buttons

Has anyone noticed closing or minimizing windows requires a red-button click followed by a slight move of the mouse? It's almost impossible not to notice because you are forced to move your mouse just a few pixels to "activate" the function (close, minimize, etc.). If you move it too much, your request is ignored (even though the widget highlighted briefly). If you don't move it at all, the widget remains highlighted but does nothing unless you twitch your mouse.

The attached changeset cleans up some code with respect to Context return and jump. I recommend that this goes into 3.7.
