Hi all, Does anybody know where to find 'st80-high.mpg'? It's an extract from an 80's television show I think in which Smalltalk-80 is presented, the graphical user interface is shown and Adele Goldberg explains a bit about what the goals of Smalltalk are. I have the low quality version 'st80-low.mpg' but the low sound quality sometimes makes it difficult to understand what is being said :/ S!

Hi Kris, there's no high quality mpeg but I found this real player version (high and low quality) along with the ST80-low.mpg on Kev's Swiki.... http://kgf.swiki.net/10 I have to say though that the high quality real file doesn't appear much better than the mpeg. Newbie looking for UI for MVC

Hi, I'm a 'very' newbie in squeak/smalltalk so please forgive me. I'm looking for a kind of UI widgets such as a listbox, checkbox, etc in MVC, and I've been searching in the web but couldn't find them yet so far. I don't want to use Morphic since it's too big/slow in my PC. Are they any kind of listbox, checkbox classes in MVC ? How do you make a checkboxes, listboxes and other widgets in MVC (not in Morphic) ? Is there any mailing list for squeak beginners ? Any help would be appreciated. regards, Iwan

Where is the code for this ?

Hi all, I am seeking your help on finding some code. I am doing a project that will add a handle to the halo. In doing so I have been browsing the code for the "dismiss" handle. I need help in finding the code where the forms that "make up" the handles are drawn. I have found where they are located with the following code that I derived from looking at the --------------addHandle: handleSpec on: eventName send: selector to: recipient method in class HaloMorph. The code I used within a workspace just to see how the handle looks is: formDict _ ScriptingSystem formDictionary. form _ formDict at: #'Halo-Dismiss'. form displayOn: Display. The above "finds" the form for the dismiss handle, However can anyone tell me where the code is that actually creates/draws this form?

We denken dat het belangrijk is dat de Smalltalkers in Nederland elkaar weten te vinden, beschikken over materiaal (case studies, success stories) om PHB's om te praten toch maar niet op Java over te stappen, etcetera. Daarom zijn we bezig om een inventarisatie te maken van mensen die geinteresseerd zijn in de wederopstanding van Doit - geinteresseerd in de breedste zin des woords, je hoeft echt niet oud-lid of bezoldigd Smalltalker te zijn om hierover mee te denken. Het idee is om zoveel mogelijk namen te verzamelen op de 'rebirth' mailing list, en dan op korte termijn (nog dit jaar) een avond ergens in het midden van het land te organiseren, waar we - hopelijk onder genot van een gesponsord hapje en drankje ;-) - kunnen kijken hoe we verder kunnen gaan. 3D Hardware Acceleration

Hi everyone, For some totally un-explainable reason, my VM has started crashing when I'm in software mode and I start my little 3D AUV demo. I even created a new 3.2 image, and filed in an earlier change set that worked fine this morning, and still my VM crashes. Anyways, I was playing around with stuff and remembered the "F2" button which brings up the VM menu which lets you pick OpenGL versus D3D for hardware rendering. The default was D3D, so I switched it to OpenGL, turned on HW acceleration in the B3DSceneMorph, and started the demo up. It works fine, although the floor texture doesn't work, but unlike in D3D mode it handles the lighting correctly. However, when I went to close the morph, I "lost" the area of the display that the 3D rendering was taking place in. When in D3D mode the window closes properly, but in OpenGL mode I get a big hole in the middle of the Squeak desktop... I'm assuming something isn't getting released correctly. Are there any known issues with this? Any ideas? [FIX] RandomFix-sr

Speeds up Random and fixes some comments. I have made an extra class (instead of patching Random directly) to be able to *test* these improvements. Squeak on cheap hardware

Hi list, I born in Argentina. The last(?) economical crash there produced a lot of problems. The most important problem (IMHO) is the relative prices for technology stuff, books, etc. These situations produce a negative spiral: Less money to education -> More economical problems -> Less money to education. To stop talking in the abstract I'm involved in searching for options to run Squeak on cheap (but powerful) hardware. Basically I have 2 platforms in mind: X-Box (with Linux) and OpenBrick (http://www.openbrick.org). The X-Box cost approx. usd200 + usd50 (a chip to boot from copied cds). The openbrick cost approx. usd400 and comes with a 32Mb compact flash. Both options can run linux and use a TV as the display. The X-Box seems to be the best option price/power. What do you think?
