The domestic encodings include GB 2312, JIS X 0208, etc. In the current implementation, they are encoded in 30 bit space. the 6 bit of the 30 is used for what I call "encoding tag" and the 24 bit is used for the characters in the encoding. (The boundary may have to be changed.) The "European part" (the characters come from ISO-8859-* family except 8859-6) could have (and should have) the same encoding tag. The display system (in Squeak) switches the behavior according to the encoding tag of the character. This explanation might be too rough and too vague, but there are many TBDs. Thank you. For the record, sound input works fine. The recorder morphs behave fine, for example. My Bondi Blue original iMac is a pimple slower than the new ones if that matters. The only traits on sound input that come to mind are these: (1) if you use the built-in, the background noise is fairly substantial; and (2) as I recall, the apple voice recognition stuff didn't work so well on them (though I haven't tried it).

i don't know about the rest of ya, but i do clean installs from time to time and i DON'T like manually installing each and every [ENH], [GOODIE], or [FIX] i've picked up along the way. a possible solution: the following is a template that i stole--er, adapted [smile]--from mr. stephen pope. the adaptation here is that the files are logged in in their own changesets... the 1st part is the blank template. the 2nd is my personal template as an example of how to use the danged thing. instructions: - you should edit this template and put it wherever (but most likely where your squeak image is because that's where the FileList 1st pops you to). - in the FileList, select the file (i call mine INSTALL-OUTLINE.st) - select all the text (cmd-a) - doIt (cmd-d). you should then have a sparkling new image just the way you like it. hope you all like it. i use it often. [ENH] ListItemSelectByLetter

from the preamble: a lot of changes since the initial release. moved the fuctionality of selecting a list item by letter from outside the PlugableListMorph class to inside the class (where it should have been in the 1st place, but i was still learnin'). this makes the use of this functionality more universal. heck, i like it. makes squeak feel a li'l more like my mac. 2 caveats: 1) you now have to use a modifier key (command, option, control) to get menu items to work. this is actually more consistent with the way the rest of the system works; 2) i made PluggableListMorph's instance variable always be represented by an OrderedCollection to make things work better for me. lemme know if this hurts any of you. jeez i hope it doesn't [smile]. things to do: - clean things up - find a way to implement doug way's suggestion about typing H-T-M fast puts you to HTMLblah - test test test (although it works well OMVM --jason mcvay Attachment converted: Anon:ListItemSelect....26Sep739am.cs (TEXT/R*ch) (00013B94)

(Hmm, our mail system says this never made it ) Hi, All of the packages at st.cs.uiuc.edu are now up to changeset 1447. The Spectrum analyzer is cool, but the sonogram is too slow for my system.
