Socket in Squeak

Squeakers: I am Sergio Garcia Canto. I work with Squeak when I have free time. I am working with socket. I can connect a client with a server by socket. I used the following messages to do it: Class: SimpleClientSocket Messages: connectTo: aServer port: aNumber listenOn: aPort I do not find the classes and messages to implement the following: 1.- A client is listening on a port (protocol or service) of TCP/IP and It connects with several clients use the same port, but diferent sockets. 2.- A client or server broadcast something throught a port of TCP/IP and all machines are listening on this port are received this packet. Is it posible in Squeak? How ?

ioLowResMSecs() appears to be undefined. Called by interp.c, not found in any of the supplied source files. It might work for most cases, but what about, for example, Metaclass? Metaclass overrides new from Behavior to prevent multiple metaclasses from being created. If the new and new: messages were intercepted more "downstream" by Object class, then Metaclasses couldn't do special things like this... -- tim

So the search is actually: Array class ArrayedCollection class SequentialCollection class Collection class Object class Class ClassDescription Behavior (voila!) Object Ignoring proxy objects, Object is the root of all objects, and Object class is the root of all class objects. Object doesn't have any superclasses because it is the root of the hierarchy of classes. Object class does have a superclass sicne it is the root of the metaclass hierarchy and inherits all the appropriate class behaviour from Class. Object conveys behaviour to its instances. Object class and subclasses implement the behaviour of their instances, the named classes, just as the named classes implement the behaviour of their instances, the "ordinary" objects. But Object class and all the other metaclasses have their own behaviour which must be implemented by some class. This class is Metaclass. Metaclass inherits from ClassDescription, because a metaclass also has methods, a comment and an organization. But metaclasses share the class pool and shared pools with their sole instance, their named class. Hence its Class which implements class and shared pools. metaclass implements having a named class. Of course, Metaclass must have a metaclass, Metaclass class, and this, just like all other metaclasses, is an instance of Metaclass. This is the circularity that terminates the class meta-regress. Don't let anyone tell you it doesn't make sence. It makes perfect sense once you understand it. But don't let any one tell you its simple either :) There's a great diagram of this in the blue/purple book. You can also use e.g. a structured drawing inspector like HotDraw to build the diagram yourself. The hierarchy for Array and Array class looks like: Instance Protocol Class Protocol ---------------------------------------------------------- Array Array class Arrayed Collection Arrayed Collection class Sequencable Collection Sequencable Collection class Collection Collection class Object Object class (nil) Class ClassDescription Behavior Object (nil) You can find this by doing a "spawn protocol" in the class browser pane when the switch is set to Class (to see the class protocol as opposed to the instance protocol). -- tim

new: and new are implemented in Behavior. Object class is a subclass of Class, which is a subclass of ClassDescription, which is a subclass of Behavior. -Ralph
