Is #initialize a class method or an instance method? This sounds like the perfect candidate for a Squeak mail filter that would parse your received email and filter it into the appropriate folders. Most decent mail programs have some sort of filter capability and they can do fairly reasonable boolean filters. An entry point for scrollbars

The talk about scrollbars made me realize that I never really use the Squeak scrollbars effectively, instead just dragging up and down lists. I've found the scrollbars in the Oberon system work very well for me, and I think they'd fit well into Squeak. Unfortunately, I find it very difficult to figure out where I should go to change behaviour in MVC. InterpreterSimulator

Be very careful; making direct modifications to any of the frequently-used MVC classes like this can leave you with a non-functional image if you make a mistake (as I quickly discovered when playing around with ScrollController and un-commenting the yellow-button menu hilite code in controlInitialize ;-) Much better would be to make a copy of the class and test that until you are sure of its operation... -- tim

The things that method sets up are not intended to be modified (or the modifications are very infrequent). There is no real automatic way to detect when changes would require that the class initialization code be run again; it's mainly a manual operation. If you find that you are changing the class variables frequently, then you should consider changing them to instance variables that are set up whenever a new instance of that class is created. >(I must confess that I have no idea how the initialization methods gets >launched). That is set up automatically when you fileOut: your ChangeSet. If any of the MetaClasses defined in the ChangeSet contains a method named "initialize" then code to invoke it is added at the end of the fileOut so that when it is filed in, the initialization takes place. Help!

The following example code which comes from Inside Smalltalk vol. II, does not work properly because the MotherDuck initialization method is not run anew each time its code is modified. When you do "MotherDuck example" in a Workspace, a few dialogs appear, one describing the application, and the other displaying a popup menu with several icons in the shape of birds to choose from (left looking duck, right looking duck, etc.). If you slightly modify the contents of that popup menu in MotherDuck's initialization method, (by changing 'left looking duck' to 'left stupid duck' for instance), the modification has no consequences on the contents of the popup menu when you run the project again as if the code had not been updated. Why? (I must confess that I have no idea how the initialization methods gets launched). Is this caused by some bug in Squeak or bad coding? Any help would be much appreciated.
