Remove trailing spaces of aString

Hello I use Squeak 4.3, Update 11860. I want to remove the trailing spaces and or tabs and LF of a String something like 'abc ' should just be 'abc'. If I remember that there was a method in class String to something like this. Is this correct? Is there a package with additional String convenience methods? vms and images

I just tried to get a new Squeak environment up and running, and it reminded me of some things I was wondering about. This is all in the context of http://squeak.org/Download/. 1. I can't find a link to the current image/changes set on the download page. Everything points to the all-in-one, which is good for the total beginner, but not so good for the mere rank amateur. For example, the link under "Image File" points to the all-in-one. 2. Looking at http://www.squeakvm.org, I can't find any description of the difference between the "Cog VM" and the "Stack VM", which makes me worry some. Choices without any information are off-putting. I'd suggest that the "stable binaries" be listed first on the page, then the "continuous build" ones listed afterwards, if that's what you'd recommend a beginner go with. 3. If I persist in looking for the image file, I can follow the link to the FTP site, but then I have two choices: "Squeak" and "SqueakCore", and nothing has set me up to understand the difference between these two. 4. In general, I'd suggest having direct links to a single current image and a single current VM for each platform, rather than going through squeakvm.org and FTP. So, what is the difference between the Cog VM and the Stack VM? I have a vague feeling that Cog is the "new thing", which leaves Stack to be the "old thing", but that's just inference. Is Cog a register machine and Stack a stack machine, under the hood? Regards, Johann

Hi, I've read the sparse documentation on 'dynamic message' calls and I've experimented a lot and still cannot figure out how to do something that should be simple: I want to build a message like this: cellObject cellLock: aBoolean where cellObject is to look like: cell1, cell2, cell3 ..., or cell9 I can build up cellObject like this: self perform: ('cell', cellNumber asString) asSymbol but I can't figure out how to build the full message with the key selector "cellLock:", and the value 'aBoolean'. I've tried everything I can think of based on the terse documentation, and anything I can find on the internet, which isn't much (including this forum). Any help would be appreciated. Squeak on a BeagleBone

It took me almost 20 years, but I finally thought of something interesting to put on the Internet. ;) I've been experimenting with a BeagleBone (embedded ARM V7 platform) and was able to get Squeak 4.2 running without a problem. I put together a simple demo with a blog post and video, and thought the Squeak list may be interested (also, please let me know if I have any technical errors in my smalltalk code explanation). http://blog.unthinkable.org/ -David

comparing to an exact class & storing class association relationships

I am trying to record and work with the non-inheritance relationships between classes. For example I have... C subclasses B which subclasses A E subclasses D which subclasses A A <-- B <-- C A <-- D <-- E with an 1 to N association relationship between B & E. A class >> relations ^ {} B class >> relations ^ { E -> #addE: } the executing 'B relations' returns the list. Now in terms of the model, it is correct that C inherits the relationship to E, but in terms of drawing the class relationships on screen, there should be nothing drawn between C & E. The problem is that executing 'C relations' returns { E -> #addE: } but I don't want to draw that. One fix would be a FORCED requirement to define #relations returning ^{} on EVERY class that does not have its own relations, but I want to avoid having to do that. Another fix is doing... B class >> relations (self isKindOf: B class) ifTrue: [ ^ { E-> #addE. } ] ifFalse: [ ^ {} ] except #isKindOf includes subclasses. Is there another method that compares to an EXACT class? I have also considered storing a classes relationships in a class instance variable, which I think would work, but it lacks the visibility that doing it in code has. Also I hit the same issue with with lazy initialization of that variable per class. Or... am I approaching this all wrong? Is there another way? cheers, Ben

SqueakMap catalog Help

I am trying to find out how to use the SqueakMap catalog in squeak 4.2. I am trying to download a package called PDFReader But I can only download 6 out of the 780 packages hear is an image. http://forum.world.st/file/n4580438/Squeak_help.png I tried the Search packages thing it didn't work and I clicked update it didn't work ether. so can anyone tell me how to download any package using the SqueakMap thing?
