In Windows, drive letters are indexes into a volume table - more like
partition names in Unix (/dev/sda1, /dev/sdb2 etc) or in Grub ( (hd0,1),
(hd1,2), ...). They are not treated as part of a namespace.
Unix has one and only one index (root) named "" (zero length symbol).
