I think "lf" (line-feed) works in this case (vs."MultiByteFileStream lineEndDefault") because MultiByteFileStream seems already nicely designed at the class level to do the right thing whether you want to write for the local platform (wantsLineEndConversion: true) or a specific platform (wantsLineEndConversion: false).  With FileStream stdout, wantsLineEndConversion is set to true, so #cr or #lf will always reduce to the local platform.
